Hi all,
My child is now studying in K2 in Victoria Kintergarden. We've obtained an offer from CAIS for preparatory for the year 2021-2022. However, we would like to pursue for VSA for their 2022-2023 year and the results for the VSA interview will be announced on May 2021. The interview results for VSA would be
1) acceptance
2) waitlist
3) decline
As there is only a 1/4 chance of my child getting into VSA(25% chance are advised by VSA teachers), it would be likely that my child would be offered a waitlist. If that happens, I would be caught in a dillema:
1) Forfeit the CAIS spot for 2021-2022 and attend VEO K3 and stay in the waitlist spot until there is a spot, and who knows, there might not be a spot for my child and I will need to find an alternative school. Losing both CAIS and VSA offer or obtained the VSA offer in the end.
2) Accept the CAIS spot for 2021-2022 which means I gave up the VSA waitlist as VSA has confirmed with me that the waitlist spot will be cancelled automatically if I don't stay in VEO for K3.
I am very struggled in which route I shall pick. Can anyone who has these past experience give me some advise. Thanks alot in advance!

Yes, have foreign passport.
If vsa dont have offer then I will have to go for other IS, direct subsidy or local school which is not the preference.

Tough decision, seems you still need to accept offer CAIS first because you are not sure if you are getting decline or waitlist till May21? Do you need to pay debentures for CAIS before May?
Btw if you get VSA waitlist, and if it’s your top preference, I think you should stay in VSA and apply other schools with entry at 6yo as backup, eg ISF y1, CAIS Y1, FIS Y1. Although the chance is lower than mass intake yr at 5 yo, it’s still pretty high since you got foreign passport.

Yes exactly. It is very hard to predict if i got a waitlist which is highly likely.

Since your top preference is VSA and you hv a passport, I think
1. Keep vic k3 and see if you hv a chance to get into vsa
2. In case no offer from vsa, by his k3, reapply cais again and it still high chance to get an offer
3. At his k3 also apply other IS and with a passport I’m sure it’s not hard to get an IS offer like fis, nais etc
Good luck

I will stay in K3 n increase the chance to get into VSAIf foreign passport, the chance of get into other IS is not limited.
Relatively VSA is more outstanding than CAIS in terms of UNI placement and the IB results are more guaranteed

If I were you, I will ask myself if I am ready to face the worse scenario that is no offer from VSA and CAIS’ offer has already been declined (becoz u decided to stay in vic k3).
If i have other available options that have been confirmed and i think they are worth going even if i dont have vsa or cais, then I would risk. Otherwise, i wont.
Given that u already got an offer from CAIS, would you consider asking the admissions if its possible to also apply for CAIS’ school year 2022-23 and see if u can also get that offer.

You should accept the offer from CAIS first, if you are put on VSA waitlist, then just simply go to CAIS. Once put on waitlist, the chance of getting into VSA is very low, and you won't know the final results until 2022 because everyone who gets an offer from VSA will hold on to the offer up till the very last minute (even if they have to pay $60k).

I would also like to know from the experiences of VEO parents. Did they suddenly give out offers by the end of K3 around August when kids got offer from a direct subsidy / local / IS, they would eventually reject the VSA offer and give up the 60k. I am sure the ones who's willing to pay the 60k will wait until the last second before throwing away their offer.

Yes you are right, you won't know whether you will get an offer until the very last minute, parents won't release their offers until they are asked to pay the first tuition instalment, even when they have secured other offers and are pretty sure they won't start school at vsa.
And regarding the 25% chance of getting into VSA, it only applies to some campuses, for other campuses, it is below 20%.

Even with a foreign passport, the chance of getting a place in many IS (participating some popular ones) will be slim, since you have missed the year of mass intake for most schools. If you pass the interview, you are after vacant spots by leavers. It’s a bet. If you like VSA so much that you finally decided to stay at Vic Kindie, you need to have a backup plan for schools that have vacancies for K3 graduates, eg SIS, or you may want to look into some new IS.

If I were in the same position I will take CAIS’ offer first, wait to see if VsA gives an offer in summer, if no offer, then go to CAIS and apply again for a p.2 place at VSA further down the road. The school search process for p1 can be nerve wrecking if your kid is put on VSA waitlist

Take CAIS and see if you get VSA offer before new school year, if not then go to CAIS.

defer the CAIS offer
The CAIS prep class will start by Aug 2021 and VSA interview results will be announced on May 2021, and the students shall take the offer and pay the 60k debenture by that time.
Therefore the latest I can defer of CAIS offer would be until Aug 2021. Is that what you mean? or do you mean I can defer later then Aug 2021??

I would not be surprised. Vic (except Hing Fat Street campus) and VSA are now "owned" by different stake holders
