Wondering if any parents can share what Chinese textbooks NAIS use for reception and primary for children who are at the highest Chinese level? Many thanks (emoji)(emoji)!

There are no text books. The teachers make their own teaching materials

I see ...thanks for the reply. In your opinion, what’s the level of Chinese taught...and is it a few grades lower than local schools ? Thanks again .

My daughter is in year 1 now. Its comparable to local k3 at this stage.

Nais is using Singapore Chinese textbook , they keep the books at school and not meant for kids to bring home.

It's called 欢乐伙伴，published by 名创教育，Singaporean government. My kid goes second highest level of the Chinese class, the content is not easy but you cannot rely on school totally as the practice at school is not sufficient to cope with the assessments in my experience. If your kid Chinese level is v high and there is support from family or tuition, then may not be a problem.

Thanks for the info! Very helpful indeed. Singapore textbooks seem good. When I went to the sai king early years school tour, seem they are using English textbook for learning Chinese (those that are targeted at teaching expats)... so just wondering if their primary years would have more tailored textbooks for Chinese speakers. I will definitely supplement with Chinese classes outside but if there is certain level at school that would be better.

U are welcome,Atecila! I have seen the homework of the most advanced Chinese class, which kids are mostly mainlanders Chinese plus a few Hk kids, it's really hard!!!

I am always curious, how come the mainlander Chinese can always maintain a high standard of Chinese while we local HK people cannot. I think the most important thing is their determination and a lot of them will not use English at all at home. At least they won’t say “ my kids prefer English to Chinese etc” .

True, use of the language does help a lot, for families like us, we don't speak mandarin, so it also discounts the learning, but having said that, I still try my best to use the Chinese app to teach them, through this practice I myself do learn more mandarin than before! ^^

For the highest level of chinese in year 1 in NAIS, they are now learning the pingyin and the classwork exercise is not easy i must say. It requires them to recognize the chinese word and write the pingyin of the word. And every theme there is some culture learning and some poems. But of coz students are not required to memorize them and got tested. And no homework. Teachers do recommend 10-15chinese reading a day

Because oral mandarin grammar is the same as for written Chinese.
