另外, Abacus升Clearwater bay School 難嗎？

From the website it said there will be interviews conducted in around Jan. Why do you think there arent any? Is it only abacus is like this?

It is called "play visit " , equal to "interview". I don't think passport matters.

Cos when I searched for info related to Abacus on google, I saw some ppl said there's no interview... but that was some years ago, maybe different now

Thanks貝珠~ I thought foreign passport has priority. Since Abacus is in sai kung, it sounds more difficult for hk people to enter as there would be more competition from westerners

Abacus did have play visit(interview) in Jan this year for 2017 K1. Guess it would be the same admission process for 2018 K1.

I note that Abacus offers English and Bilingual Class.

Bilingual class has 50% of the teaching input done in Mandarin and they have 2 teachers and 1 education assistant. The English class is more basic, 15 minutes of Mandarin daily and one slightly longer session once a week. The English class has 1 teacher and 1 education assistant.

Can anyone advise me whether other ESF kindergartens only offer English stream? and how much time of Chinese is taught in one week in other ESF kindies? Thanks!!

Other Esf kinder, no bilingual class, only once chinese class per week ( no idea about the duration of that session )

Sounds like Abacus is quite different for other esf kindies

Quite surprised of that difference as I supposed Abacus has v few Chinese and the need for mandarin class shd be less

Actually there are more HKers and PRC Chinese than westerners studying at Abacus nowadays. In the English stream, there is a daily Chinese lesson of 30 mins. The level of Chinese is very basic, more for teaching a Chinese customs and transition than the language itself.

My boy is in K2 with Abacus now. Chinese is less than half in his class. But I was told that they took more Chinese this year (just hearsay). For Chinese, they used Putonghua in teaching.

I guess is half Putonghua and half English (or indeed most is in English). My boy is in bilingual class.

Sounds good~ I think it's good enough if they have like 1 hour of Chinese every day.

My girl was in the English stream. They use Putonghua to teach Chinese.
