Hi all, any comments?

We are Christian and would love the school to have strong Christianity to build up our child.

Both are Christian school and we live in Hk island. How to choose??

I think religion is only one part of school picking criteria. HKIS is a Christian school but also have sessions about other religion too. So that the kids learn about ALL other religion as well.

I am not too sure how "strong" Christian is in school.  They have regular service but not like the kids have to pray everyday in class if u know what i mean.

If you live on Hong Kong Island, wouldn't HKIS be a better choice considering the travelling distance / time?  Unless you drive your child to school, travelling by school bus can take over an hour, depending where you live.

About your question on how strong Christianity is, ICS follows traditional Christian and biblical values.   Seems that biblical teaching is integrated into every aspect of the curriculum.  Teachers and students begin each day with prayers.

HKIS teaches christianity but it is not embedded in school life like in ICS. So if this is your sole concern, the choice is quite obvious.

Thanks hong0706. Traveling time is our concern too. We are debating whether to move into Kolwoon side or NT.

My son is currently in R1 at HKIS and he loves going to school.   His teacher is so nuturing and understands his strengths and weaknesses.   There are 14 kids in his group and only 4 are Chinese.   My son is in the full day program and he gets one full hour of outdoor playtime everyday.  There are also music, PE, library, chinese classes.  Parents can volunteer at school. He has had 2 field days so far this year where they get to play and do various sports at the large outdoor field at the TT campus.

Regarding how much religion is incorporated in the program, it is definitely not as integrated as ICS.   My son doesn't have to pray at school but he did come home one day and asked me about Jesus.   They also sang Christian songs during their Christmas performance and learn other Christian lullabies during the year.

Thank you so much Peababylau. Do you have to pay a lot extra cost so far other than the tuition? Do parents tend to supplement a lot of after school activities or classes ?

Here are the things I had to pay 'extra' for -
- Chipping in for a class group xmas present for the teacher,
- contributed to class annual fund
- gave my son some money to spend at the book fair

All the above were only a couple hundred dollars.

As for ECA..  this is all very personal and sujective.   At only 4 and 5 years old, they are already so tired after coming home from a full day of school.    I don't let my son do any ECA during weekdays.   But he goes to Chinese class on the weekend.
