Hi- all
We submitted the late application (March 16) to Tsing Yin ESF kindergarten. However they arranged us to have the play visit in mid April.
Here's my questions,
1. I heard that even though the application was successful, they would not be able to offer me the seat at this point. More so like wait list. Is that true ? Any mama has experience?
2. I still don't know if IS will fit my girl well. Let's say it doesn't. Is it very difficult for IS students to switch back to local schools ? If so what year is the best to transfer?
3. How's the Chinese level in ESF kindergarten? How much Chinese a wk ?

Oh I see! Hi Kamgat & Bellarie, for both of your case, I think both of you can still go for the play visit, see if your gal can success in the interview first, if not, then you may continue to go to Victoria! On the other hand, if really got succeeded in the interview, most probably you will on the waiting list first, but there is really chance to get the offer while on waiting! I'm one of those! I was on waiting for 1 month only! Very lucky!
The other thing to consider is the through-train school arrangement! For Victoria, most of the student can get into their primary school in Aberdeen (not very sure on it's location but I remember it's a bit far)! For ESF, if you passed the primary school then directly to secondary without the need for interview! Also, by catchment area, the ESF school is more or less near your place!

So for the long-run, I'm more keen on ESF group of schools! Thus I will choose ESF kinder!
But their chinese is not very strong, thus the only thing got to reinforce is their chinese studies!

Oh yes.. Another consideration is, it will be extremely difficult to get an ESF primary school interview nowadays, more and more local students want to shift from local to international due to heavy homework pressures and decided to change! Now, no matter it's ESF, Kellett, Nord Anglia or other primary international, the waiting list is almost over 100 (even some of them over 400) on waiting list! Many applicants even have no chance for an interview after paid the application fee. Thus, I choose to put my baby to ESF kinder first.. At least hv the priority for ESF primary interview. The kinder told me at least my girl will have 3 ESF primary interviews, they are : 1 foundation school according to catchment area which will be Shatin Junior, 2nd will be Renaisssance College and 3rd will be Discovery College (but this one is too far). In 2014-15 annual report of ESF Tsing Yi, over 90% of their kinder students got into ESF primary! thus, I think to play safe, can apply another 2-3 international schools at kid's K1 final term as an alternative, just in case kid's failed the ESF primary interview! But many of my friends said no worry, usually can get in except your kid's English is not good cuz they mainly look into kid's speaking English!

We are lucky to get accepted in ESF kinder TY directly through late application . No waiting
But we already registered for vic and already paid the $11000 levy as well
So we are still in the dilemma which to pick . Btw we live right above vic in Olympic station . And there is a little sister to follow

So if your gal has adopted the Vic style! Then no harm to continue with Vic till finished k3... If at her k2 you feel that local school is not your cup of tea or if Education Bureau is getting worst on local school's system, then you may start to consider to shift your daughter to international school and apply ahead! If she could continue to adapt to local style such as dictation, copying words and prepare to learn maths (perhaps prepare the level similar to P1-P2 while she still at K3)... and she can manage all well! Then it should be no problem for choosing local stream for her primary! Thus, Victoria is good that it can be both aim for local or international...

And one good thing abt Vic is - it also has VSA as a backup . Anyway good luck to anything u choose . Btw which Vic you currently going ?

Oh I'm not too familiar with VSA, but I've done lots of homeworks on ESF group of schools, for it's primary, I like Kowloon Junior, Shatin Junior and Beacon Hill School! For Secondary, I like both KGV and Shatin College very very much! I've read all of their Annual reports on the website! I've also talked with the existing or ex-ESF parents, the comments are so positive that they gave me great confidence in the school! So if you feel Vic is more suitable for your girl, you may have a try first, otherwise you may feel regret!

Thanks bellarie for your reply. I thought you are one of the candiates whom we met during the play session on 17Apr (Sun). We were separated in groups of different colors on that day, I though we were in the same group 
Actually, we are TC kinder candidates for K2, my child is Dec baby, I wondered my kid was grouped to TY K1 play visit cause I expected other kids are big Bs, but candidates we met that looks similar age with my kid, thus I would like to know if you are one of the candidates that day.
Well, my child's performance on that day was poor, too timid, and no interest to play with those toys that set, just answered my questions in simple wordings and in low voice... no hope

Actually my girl is a super small b too. Born late Nov!
On the day of play visit, I didn't see any grouping arrangement.
Actually she didn't perform much. She was just busy playing the dough.
Cause at home we mainly use Cantonese with her. So a total English environment is quite new but she knows eng ok. So she only respond the teacher yes/ no.
The teacher then came to us asking us some questions. I really think that ESF not only is looking for suitable child. They also look at the parents a lot. So what I want to say is, even though your kid may not perform well, your performance counts!!!!!
And at the end, we are very likely to turn down the offer since we already submitted everything to VIC also . My husband and I still thinking

Many thanks for your message which is encouraging, I hope my performance wasn't too bad and can assist.
We are cantonese family too, my child can speak English in loud voice and in sentences at home (though sentences were incomplete or gramatically wrong sometimes), but on that day, sigh...
I am feeling miserable when waiting results, I hope we could receive the outcome soonest, no matter reject or accept.
As for your case, I wish you and your hubby could come to an agreement and made the decision very soon. Anyway, many congrats to your gal that received offer from TY kinder.

Ture, I'm too stress. Actually, this is not our first time being turn down, my child has been put on waiting for 1year already, it seems like we have no hope with Abacus, thus we give up waiting there and switch to TC which seems bigger chance there, though TC is quite far from where we're living, we are living in Kln East.

Hello I think we are in the same group. We went to the play session in TC last Sunday....My kid was quite shy and he didn't respond much to the teacher...
I am waiting for the result too...hope that both of us can get it!

Actually, I guess places are still available with TC Kinder, cause it still accepting admissions, whether or not other candidates accept offer is not my concern. What worries me is, TC reject us even places still available due to my kid doesn't reach their standard.

I originally think if my kid was accepted, we should be informed right away. I saw another thread that interview done at WKS yesterday, offer was already sent today. If couldn't receive offer immediately, that means fail, I felt almost hopeless.
Honestly, I was so nervous that I couldn't sleep well and eat these two days

My situation was, keep on waitlist of TY for a year. Recently received a letter fm ESF TC campus, mentioned I could change my application fm TY to TC, which may shortening the waiting time. I called to office last week, they told me just need to send the email about transferring of our application and principle will check and read our file. The staff said we don't need to hv an interview again since the places in TC are still available. So far, I haven't heard any news from them. May I know Which campus's offer did u get?

其實我以前都住東涌架，住咗十幾年，我媽媽仍然住响度，可能住慣了，結婚後又常回娘家，感覺唔太遠。再者，有了細妹既成功，哥哥在KJS既waiting list可能縮短少少。細妹是12年12月b，今年8月被迫讀K2，好彩唔洗留班的話，辛苦阿妹一年，一年好快過，相信是值得既。

哈哈，講到我好似好有計謀咁，其實我冇計劃架，有計劃晨早報咗TC啦，都係見步行步咋，等等等等了Abacus好久，上個月上網睇睇先知TC開。哥哥排KJS我都半放棄狀態，佢讀緊Think，原本以為冇中學，諗住到時搵唔到就早些送出國，但現在Think開中學，我又打消呢個念頭，都係見步行步啦，有就轉、冇就算，唔計得咁多。

我睇番ESF個網喇, 原來有siblings讀繄ESF小學或中學, 另一位sibling 才有較高既priority位置架, 所以以我個case, 除非阿妹入到KJS, 否則哥哥一樣冇較高既priority. 中伏了, 哈哈, 唔緊要啦, 希望阿妹生性, 出年入ESF小學先幫哥哥啦.

Chinese level in kinder is ZERO. I put my kid to Chinese class once she get in ESF primary school.
