My daughter is in ESF K2. I read books with her a lot, but seems she is not recognizing the words. She just listens to the story. I already have the Oxford Reading Tree series at home. Seems not working as she is interested in the pictures only. Do you guys ask the child to read after you when reading stories, or just let them listen? How do you teach them to read?

I let my daughter read by herself, and correct her pronunciation.

That is normal. ESF Kindergartens do not teach children how to read and write, that comes later in ESF primary schools. Whether this should be a concern depends on whether you intend to let your child continue down the ESF path.

There is some technique to develop reading skill ( not teach, but to encourage according to the kid's own development) First stage the kid just see the whole page as picture and does not realise the words, you need to point to the words when read, you need simple and repeating words not the Oxford reading tree, as simple as eg " Where is the red sheep, where is the fat sheep etc" with a picture to suggest the words. Let the child guess from picture first. Mind you story telling is different from "reading".
