Just talked to the principal and she said the school is a small community and parents need to be quite actively involved? Any comments?

yes, that's true. not just NIS, other international schools also expect parents' participation ie attending parent meeting, helping out some roles as volunteers running events . Also there are events that they dont' arrange school bus as to encourage to participate in the events. with the involvement, you can know parents better. however, if you are working parents and you live far away or only have granny helping out to look after your child, turn out lots of school events you would not be able to participate

I have interested in NIS, but my friend told me that NIS's location is not good and quite dangerous ,is itn't ?

Readymama, Do u know how the Chinese teaching level the school offer? I'm v interested in NIS but at the same time, I want my gal to study Chinese well....thanks!

Chinese is traditional Chinese. K1 and 2 both have daily Chinese in Mandarin for 35 min. They will do writing practice in class and every week school will send back the paper home for Parents reference on what has been taught. Chinese at K2 i remember is teaching sentence in verbal so kids know how communicate in mandarin in sentence. You can also check out their facebook to know more school activities. Small class has lots of advantage especially teachers can have more time sort out kids behavioural problem and handle bullying type of questions. I remember in K2 teacher shared with my girl was not happy because she was isolated from the others kids. Teacher told me how steps by steps and spent days in teaching my girls how to ask in joining other kids to play. The school has Octupus card system for letting parents entering school during lesson time and parents can listen to how teacher teach the kids. So it is very transparent and every assistants, teachers are so friendly and made you feel like home in school. The class room each is very big. There are couch, carpet and kids can lie down when they feel tired, read books any time

May I know the class size for k1 ? How much time the students will play in the lovely playground ?

there're AM and PM class for K1, there're around 15 kids in a class. 2 teachers and 2 aunties to help the kids with changing shoes/go washrooms..etc many kids will play before and after school at the playground!

School bus has two routes only : 1. Ma on Shan, Taiwai, shatin town, fo tan, university, tai po road; 2. Lam chuen 林村，tai po kcr, 天賦海灣。 it varies depends on number of students and where they live.
U need to call the bus company directly to ask. But outside shatin and tai po, no hope.
