I would not encourage anyone to apply for american international school. Why not try Hong Kong international school? How old is the child?

You went for a school visit before? Campus is ran down, library is super small, teacher quality is mediocre. Let's just say it is a school where students get kicked out from other international schools go to.

On the upside, it's not very hard to get in as long as the child can communicate in English.

iloveguacamole, Your child or you know someone studies in AIS..., your comments are very negative. You are verbally assaulting all the students of AIS...by saying that they are not good at all and no other IS will take them. You are hurting the current students and parents of AIS. Do you have proof?

From time to time, we can see some people give very negative comments purposely for some schools in this forum without good supporting fact.

My boy studies in AIS and quite lots of my neighbours kids at different grade study there. They are in general presentable and smart. Of course comparing with HKIS, HKIS has a bigger campus. Teachers at AIS are professional and good in taking care child. Surprising even their Mandarin class is in good structure and content. Quite high ratio of high school students get offer from US or other overseas top universities. This is the fact we can see and the school publish the academic result on web.

My boy got offers from other int'l school, but we chose AIS and so far we are satisfied with the school and my boy likes to go to school very much!

According to a friend (who was from the US and had a child in AIS), the school has standard similar to a typical US public school. Admission would depend more on the availability of places. If she is from the US, I guess she should submit application anyway. She should also apply to a few other schools. Ask her to check websites of different schools. Check the location and tuition fees. Then shortlist a few to apply to. It is approaching end of school year so she need to act fast.

I m not sure if the parents who gave negative comments here have actually paid a visit to the school tour, the campus may be old but they have what the kids needed. Math class level is one year higher than in U.S. to match up HK standards. My daughter will be in k1 in this August, she still remembers what she did in the play visit (interview) and claims that is her fav school whenever we pass Waterloo Road. The interview was very well organised and took 30mins as stated. We gave up the reception offer for another offer and it was a tough decision for us to make.

In fact I have been to the school. I know kids who graduated from AIS and kids who are STILL in AIS. I have been to a lot of other schools as well so i am able to compare it to other international schools. This is how I came up with my negative comments. With legit reasons to backup.

There are always positive and negative comments of a school. It's your call to analyze all this info, or choose what you want to hear and what not to hear.

I agree that everyone can has his/her comments about people or things, no matter it is positive or negative...it is that person's perception or understanding. However, be fair to and respect every single kids of AIS. You are putting a label on them saying all of them are useless, and no other IS want them. Even they are in other IS, they will be kicked out eventually. Over generalizing is not good, and they have no chance to defense themselves.
Do you know all the teachers of AIS? Then you can say all of them are mediocre...., it is an insult. If someone give the same comments to the school, which your kids are studying in how would that make you feel? Please be aware of your languages. FYI, my kids are not in AIS.

strongly agree with kTonghoalthough my kids are not studying in AIS, it is so rude to give this kind of insulting comment to hurt AIS students and teachers. Please be respectful.
