My daughter is going to a Year 1 student in QBS next school year. I have just received the information regarding the purchase of summer uniform in QBS and realized there are quite a lot of items to buy.

Could any parents of QBS students share your experience and let me know which items are compulsory/practical/impractical to buy?

I particularly want to know the following:

1. I saw from the QBS pix that most students are wearing short sleeves blouse+ culottes. Is it a must to buy the summer dress as well? Do they serve the same purpose? Or in which circumstances are summer dress/blouse+culottes required to wear?

2. How many days of a week are they required to wear uniform and PE uniform in general? Do you have any suggestion on how many set of uniform/PE uniform to buy?

3. Are the house colors assigned by the school and to be known on induction day? Will sibling entered afterwards usually be assigned in the same house or upon request?

4. Are white socks to be worn with both summer uniform and PE uniform? Any specific requirement on the length and design?

5. Are QBS school bag, raincoat and the Eco-friendly book bag compulsory to buy? If not, any restriction if I want to buy these from outside?

I would be grateful if anyone could share their experience so I can buy the appropriate items! Thanks a lot!

Also, 6. Are they supposed to wear black leather shoes (are black sports shoes acceptable, too?)for uniform and white sports shoes for PE uniform? Any specific requirement?

We will be traveling overseas for most of the summer vacation so we would love to know and prepare them earlier so we don't have to rush when we come back. Thanks!

路過……my daughter went to QBS years ago.
1. Summer dress = blouse + culottes, there is no need to buy both unless ur daughter wants both.
2. Not sure. I seem to recall they had a PE bag to carry the kit. For washing purposes, should buy 2 sets of normal uniform and 2 sets of PE kit.
3. Don't know
4. Yes, always white socks. Short white socks are more comfortable in the summer.
5. Don't know
6. To be on the safe side: black leather shoes + white sports shoes.

You are welcome. Also, it doesn't matter if you are missing some items, i think the PTA shop is open during school hours for further purchases.

My daughter is going to be in Y1 this summer, too. Basically this is my understanding in terms of uniform, correct me if I am wrong.

Girl on the left: short sleeve blouse with culottes

Girl on the right: summer dress

Girls are supposed to wear black leather shoes with white socks

Girls at the upright corner: P.E. T-shirt with P.E. shorts, white sneakers and white socks are required

I've no idea about the sweatshirt and knitted vest though.

I would say I'll go with the blouse and culottes first.

My boy is in Year 6 QBS NOW, moving to South Island School after the summer holiday. He loves QBS and his studies. It's a very closed knit community in QBS. All the new year 1s, big welcome to QBS
Answers to angelsnowy's questions
1.Parents either buy the blouse-culottes or the summer dress, culottes have elastic top.
2. They have 2 PE days per week plus after school sports activities as well (voluntary), need at least three sets of PE uniforms. Choose the navy blue shorts instead of white as they sit on the floor a lot.
3. House colours assigned on Induction Day. Siblings are always assigned to same house.
4. White socks (short) in summer and navy blue socks in winter. Girls can wear navy blue knee hi socks or stockings in the winter.
5. The principal told school that the QBS school bags are compulsory, thus most new schools use. Otherwise, some older kids use their own cartoon style back packs and are fine. Blue raincoat needed and QBS raincoat is ideal as it covers the back pack as well. Book bags are compulsory, blue for general and red for Chinese. They have home reading books every day and lots of loose papers of crafts, classwork, etc. it's essential to use the book bags (they are sturdy) to protect the borrowed books and paper work. Folders won't work.

As for the raincoat, do you mean only plain colored blue raincoats are allowed? I thought most of the time, they used raincoats after school (then probably got on school bus) so maybe it's alright to wear their own raincoats, or is it to be strictly followed?

Honestly, they are not strict on the raincoats at all. As you said, they only use the raincoats to keep themselves dry when they get on & off the bus in the rain. I have seen all sorts.
No one seems to get into trouble for wearing the wrong type of raincoat.

I actually don't mind year 1s having compulsory school bags but my gal tried the QBS school bag on the induction day and it's huge like a camping backpack for her! (Consider she's kinda average height for her age)

They need a big bag for their packed lunch/water bottle/snack box, as there is no tuck shop/cafe or even vendor machine at school. Plus, kids like my boy borrow heaps of great thick books for home reading and from library and need a big bag for the purpose. Also, they have show and tell, plus craft work that they have to take used containers/tissue boxes etc back to school as materials at times.
Otherwise have to use a separate carry bag as needed. Some kids do it that way.
