Should the application deadline for reception 2015-16 on oct 31? Why they will send interview invitation at this moment? Are you talking about reception interview for 2015-16? You don't possess any admission priority?

Makes sense with the hesitancy because without priority (staff, sibling, passport), the chance is supposed to be low. However, last year a friend of mine with UK passport (also ethnic Chinese), her son got in by scoring Excellent on the assessment, so yes, it is still possible. If you are applying for Reception (the chance is much much slimmer for Pre-Reception, even those with sibling priority), and your child is well prepared, then definitely go for it. As i always say, if you try, the chance may be slim, but if you don't try the chance is zero.

The usual, but make sure the child is independent, confident with separation from parents, and is quite vocal and responsive.

Yokada may I ask why you asked about textbooks? Seem like we've deviated from your topic...

I don't know why you feel strange. Does the school have to process the application only after the deadline? We applied 2 years ago.

To my understanding, any schools with application deadline (thats mean not a first come first serve basis) they should not process anything earlier than that, no matter how early you apply. Otherwise, what a deadline for? please correct me if my understanding make you feel strange too. I am sorry I don't really get why this should be a norm. My another friend whose gal is Canadian applying more than a year ago for pre reception has got invitation for interview too. We need to reply whether we will take it by paying in ten days.

If your child scores excellent, then he/she may get in before kids who score good with priority. My friend with UK passports got in while my friend with Cdn passports (priority) was only wait-listed. As i said, if you try, the chance may be slim, but if you don't try the chance is zero.

Again, it really depend on how much you want your child to get into CDNIS as well. A friend of mine applied at pre-reception, child failed due to crying, got into IMS instead and didn't apply for CDNIS the next year. Reason? Because IMS rank higher in their mind. My son got into both and we chose CDNIS. It really depends on the family.

Honestly whether they receive the invite for interview now or later, everyone will be interviewed at the same time (in Jan/Feb) and with the same chance of getting in or not. Perhaps the admin just want to clear up the old stacked up applications first before dealing with the new ones (some ppl who applied two years ago may no longer be interested; we applied for AISHK back in 2012 so when the 2014 interview opportunity comes they asked us first if we still want to go ahead with the interview, which we didn't because my son had several offers with higher preferences already by then, so we declined; whether that would free up another interview spot for another applicant is unknown, perhaps it won't). I don't see any advantage for you to make a fuss if you bring it up with Emily. The poor lady is busy enough...

Hi Jolalee, thank you for your information. What Lui's information make me think that even without any priority, if we apply early we seems to have a higher chance to be granted for an interview (at least earlier to know) which is out of my understanding of CDNIS listed policy in the website. This is the reason I want to clarify and I don't think it will fuss up the admin for any clarification of application procedures to protect everyone's information right. If everything is as general as you think, they should be able to explain to me immediately rather than replying to contact me later. Btw, AISHK doesn't given any application deadline and it should be come from first come first serve basis to my knowledge, when it come to your turn, i don't find any queries on your reference case.

Alvin you're right. Unlike AISHK, CDNIS's policy should disregard application date in regards to getting an interview, as long as it is before the Oct 31 deadline the year prior to the year of entry (so for 2015-16 year of entry, the deadline is this Halloween). Sometimes even i get confused after doing so many applications last year :)

In reality, i think they do take into consideration due to their change of policy in the recent years (starting 2013 application for 2014-15), that new applicants without Cdn passports are basically not granted an interview due to the shear amount of applicants (many already with some sort of priorities, so there's no point interviewing the ones without them). Therefore, those who applied before 2013 probably are being taken into special consideration (like my UK friend last year), and this should only happen for one final year this year. Hard to understand why they are receiving the notification prior to the deadline though. I guess that's why the manager need to to explain this to you at a later time rather than whoever was answering the phone, probably. Would love to know what the school say as well.

No idea, but for CDNIS i believe they look at the eligibility of each applicant more than setting a limit to the number of kids they will interview each year (so you raised a good point casey, whether yokada gets an interview or not probably won't affect the chance of alvin getting an interview; although Alvin's point is about the general policy, which is another good point altogether). I guess that is why the school sets the new rule of not interviewing non-citizens starting last year; there are just too many qualified applicants that needs to be interviewed without the new limit.
