My wife and I are new to HK, really appreciate experienced parents to share their feedback. We are considering either 1yr playgroup for Victoria (Upper Kornhill), Woodland Mid-Levels Montessori and Yew Chung IS playgroup. Our kid is about 4mth old and he is on waiting list of all 3 schools.

Which one would you rank for kids plan to attend international school with strong focus on Mandarin (ISF Academy, CIS, etc)?

Playgroup: my girl in Woodland mid-levels since rollers and it is quite helpful for training basic gesture and routines. Victoria is difficult to enter and better Mandarin environment. So you can join woodland since 6 months old and wait for Victoria, either continue studying there or consider KCIs (both local and international stream) on mandarin aspect

Is it hard to get in? Do they start from kindergarten or Primary school?

Start at Nursery level and reputed to be difficult to get in. More info thru their school link: http://www.kcs.edu.hk/
