小学先教就太遅、我就是失敗例子。小朋友不肯写字and she always finds English more interesting than Chinese.

小學才學中文真的太遲. 試試參加以下的計劃,每天在網上看一篇. 暑假的報名資料還未出,要等一等.你可先看示範.

This "failure" is not your fault because you are fighting against the tide, and it has little to do with how early or late you started to teach your child how to read and write Chinese.

Regardless of which language, humans first learn to listen, then speak, then read, and finally write, this is the natural progression. With an alphabetic language like English, once you have learned how to listen and speak, reading and writing is not particularly difficult because you only need to learn relatively simple phonetics, after all, the written words are just direct representations of the spoken sounds. With a non-alphabetic language like Chinese however, written words have very little relation to spoken sounds, each written word is a picture or pictogram that has to be memorized, there is no way you could figure out a written word based on just the spoken sound, so it is far more difficult to learn to read and write Chinese and it is no surprise that a child who is equally exposed to both languages find English easier and hence "more interesting".

對, 以中文為母語的小朋友其實應早學或先學中文, 否則越大越缺乏學習動力, 教育研究指出中文比英文難學, 其實廣東話亦比普通話難學, 所以我寧願在家以母語為主, 先教好中文(況且我是中文教師.... XD )~
英文有學校或興趣班提供語言環境。

Actually listening and speaking is not the problem, Cantonese may be slightly more difficult than Mandarin because it has 9 tones instead of 4, but this is quite easy to overcome. Babies all over the world start to comprehend and talk at around the same age, so as far as listening and speaking is concerned, no one language is significantly harder than another.

But when it comes to reading and writing, Chinese is undoubtedly more difficult than English. When given equal exposure to both languages and left to his/her own free choice, a child will always lean towards English, so if reading and writing Chinese is important for your child, you have to compensate for this natural tendency by exposing him/her more to Chinese.

It is never too late to start anything. My child starts kindergarten this year, because we only speak english at home he doesn't want to speak chinese. Bear in mind that from personal experience, Chinese is alot harder than english in both written and pronunciation therefore would require alot of encouragement, time and effort.

Your not alone in this situation so add oil.
