從來都教導小朋友keep an open mind and keep your options open。喜歡數理，都要enjoy文科，鍾意睇non-fiction，都要愛上故事書，唔鍾意踢波，仲有好多唔同運動揀，彈琴唔考級唔彈classical，都可以搵啲soundtrack樂譜練下。總之路有好多條，條條都通大城市，唔使一定去羅馬。

雖則去英國讀寄宿公學唔多唔少係我「幫」佢揀嘅，我都同佢講，去到讀大學佢要自己負債任自己選擇喇。留英讀，入到牛劍G5大學我當然高興，美國都有唔少好大學可以選擇。甚至佢想返祖國報清華北大我都唔反對，佢自己諗清楚就得喇。

話說六月尾政府公佈熔斷，仔冇得返香港。咁我哋決定唯有我同佢個妹早啲過英國搵佢，等佢唔使一個人係guardian度過暑假啦。正當我哋傾緊成個月流流長，去邊度玩啲乜嘅時候，佢同我講話認真諗過，想挑戰下考SAT等第時多個報美國大學嘅option。佢咁講我梗係舉腳贊成，不過都擔心佢一啲準備都無做過，又好似早咗幾年（話晒而家都只不過14歲，通常啲人都係16/17歲先考）。佢話試吓咪知考啲乜，唔得可以遲吓再考過。既然佢都research過，知自己想點，作為老竇梗係盡量配合啦。

咁呢個奇妙嘅SAT之旅就咁開始咗。先係要陪佢開返個college board account，再register考SAT。跟手又要揀到個啱嘅時間（好彩8月尾有一場），再要搵到個去得到嘅英國考場。結果搵到個喺倫敦zone 6出面邊皮嘅美國國際學校考場報到名。然後又要留意個考場會唔會忽然因為疫症唔開，又要兼顧去玩。到考嗰日又要晨咁早5點幾起身揸個零鐘頭車去一個人生路不熟嘅山旮旯地方應考。其實嗰間學校個校園都幾靚，本來諗住要等三個鐘，行下睇下都好快過，轉眼又比實Q趕，話疫症問題唔俾喺校園裏面等。咁唯有同個女搵定去，但係又唔俾帶手機入場通知唔到個仔。好啦，咁揸咗架車去比較近少少嘅Kingston upon Thames玩下，諗住廿分鐘車程到回頭都好快啫。點知嗰日係星期六，有個local旅遊景點喺正kingston同間學校中間，回程差不多要45分鐘！去到間學校條隊由小路排到出大路，搞到四個半鐘先返到入去。還好係分批放人所以佢都唔使點等。

我喺「香港」俾錢，佢喺「英國」考，一個報「美國」大學嘅試，總之就係一趟奇趣嘅經歷啦。

好喇，今日終於出咗結果喇。

佢竟然係1,600分滿分...

都可以話係奇趣的經歷嘅完美結局。希望佢將來真係報美國大學嘅話，可以一樣咁順利啦。

以我所知，理論上永久有效，不過好多top U只睇三年內成績。不過佢應該三年內要報，所以應該ok。

報美國大學係真係比英國繁複好多。英國基本上一個UCAS搞掂晒，好處係揀五間，填一次表，寫一次personal statement。美國基本上任報，間間都要獨立寫PS（仲可能要多過一分），有有early admission，又有delayed，又有regular。不過好處係每間報唔同科都得（有啲甚至報嗰時都唔使講揀邊科，flexible好多）。

英國基本上齋睇學術，什麼課外活動/學會/運動/音樂，統統冇乜幫助。美國就睇重學業外其他嘢，要全面好多。

Anyway，我都係想佢哋記住keep an open mind and keep their options open。

I like this quote, but not many parents in EK really understand the essence, they only look at DSE or IBDP scores, medic and law ......

So "keep focus and narrow in DSE, medic and law schools are the limit.... "

Can't imagine at this point. Keep options open.

Even Nobel Prize also granted after the invention launched decades ago. Look at Prof Charles Kao, time to invent fibre optics, and the year receiving Nobel Prize.

Don't even know if he'll want to do research. But I guess he's more of a pure person than applied person at this moment...

If someone doesn't know the sky, won't explore the sky ..... only focus on the grounds or caves ..... that's he knows from parents and teachers ....

I actually feel very sad for the kids. It's not their fault if they can't see beyond the opening of the well they are in. It is entirely the responsibility of their parents to elevate them to a position where they can see how big the real world is.

That is why so many 狀元 in Hong Kong go into medicine. I bet a large proportion have no interest in treating patients...
