Boarding

All pupils are members of a house. There are thirteen boarding Houses and three day Houses. A map of the School can be viewed here

Each House is in the care of a resident Housemaster or Housemistress, who is likely to be one of the most influential people in a pupil’s school career, assisted by a Matron and a team of five or more tutors.

The buildings range from Meister Omers (13th Century) to the New Grange (opened in 2007) and Kingsdown House (opened in September 2015).

Pupils identify strongly with their House (it is after all home for them during term) and there are many inclusive activities such as house concerts, house plays and charity fund raising events.

Boys and girls boarding houses are ‘twinned’ for plays, concerts and social events.

There is friendly rivalry with keenly contested inter-House sport and events such as the House song competition. However, the overall ethos of the School outweighs local differences between Houses.

Year 13 A-Level Results 2022

At the top end, 30% of all grades awarded are at A*, with over 60 pupils getting a clean sweep of A*s or As, and the overall A*-B percentage is 83% which places the cohort well above 2019 levels.

Year 11 GCSEs/IGCSEs Results 2022

Their outstanding efforts, in the first summer exam season since 2019, alongside the dedication and support of their teachers and other staff in the School, have resulted in 50.5% of grades awarded 8 or 9 (equivalent to an A*) across all candidates from the Senior School and the International College. 70% of pupils at the Senior School gained 10 GCSE grades or more.
