ESF or HKIS

囡囡K2，收到ESF和HKIS offer，身邊的ESF家長都對學校感到滿意，不過我地唔認識HKIS的家長，所以想請教大家HKIS的教學質素、成績、學生操行，同ESF比較是怎樣？中文水平我地唔太介意。知道HKIS設施十分好，不過學費都係2倍有多，所以想了解多d

我們打算小學中學都留係香港讀，大學可能去英國或澳洲，因有家人係個邊，如果揀左HKIS係咪需要中學轉校考IB或A levels?

HKIS is an American system. If your target is USA, HKIS is the choice . If you aim for uk, then IB is better. Not too sure about Australian application

我地都係有兩間offer,最後選擇HKIS。兩間都係好學校，但我地target US college,所以選擇hkis.如果你target Uk, then Esf will be a better choice.

我自己+siblings澳洲讀中學/大學，仔讀ESF嚟緊返澳洲升大學；姨甥（阿妹個仔）一家住台北，讀緊Taipei American School TAS (HKIS 姊妹校，同HKIS 一樣係American syllabus，學費也相若）。

根據我地一家研究結果，ESF 價比性高過TAS好多，ESF (I)GCSE 接IBDP syllabus，比American syllabus 更貼近Australian system。澳洲越來越多中學開IBDP，依家唔少澳洲本土高中生都以IBDP成績報澳洲大學。

姨甥揸住美國（爸）/澳洲（媽）兩本護照，阿妹話怕咗美國啲槍械同”Asian Hate”， 唔會俾個仔返美國，話會送個仔返澳洲讀大學，會繼續讀TAS 高中但會轉讀IBDP課程。

Thanks for your advice, do you know if HKIS and ESF are comparable in terms of their quality of teaching, learning atmosphere and academics? Worrying we may miss out something other than study path. Thanks!

Hi I only hv experience with ESF. Really not sure of HKIS. But I am sure most of the families of hkis are Americans. So the American culture is strong there.

無錯，性價比正正係我地考慮緊既因素，可惜始終無識朋友讀HKIS，唔知有無miss到其他應該考慮既野

咁TAS幾好，可以最後揀返IBDP

識幾個朋友仔女讀Hkis，亦認識幾個由Hkis小學轉去其他IS的家庭，有些分享可以給你參考。

1）學生成績比較參差，尤其中學。最叻果d係好叻，但成績最叻和最差係好兩極。

2）一個在Hkis top 20%的grade 6學生，返去澳洲讀書，成績係好top的。

3）升大學係美國為主，或者加拿大。牛劍好少，英國大學唔係佢地的重要考慮。

4）美國culture係自由、開放，當中有upside和downside，呢樣自己考慮。

Hard to describe American culture in a few words. They hv different values . Cannot be generalised as “open” as they don’t call themselves open. But one thing for certain, families do care what the kids do in all countries . There are certain traditions that are common for Americans whilst you don’t find it in Chinese families. You really hv to immerse in that to hv a feeling. I believe most kids of any nations want to succeed and do care their own outcomes.

Let’s put it this way. Americans call their country a land of all possibilities. They look for diversity. So when you send kids to an international school, be prepared that you would encounter a very diverse community and kids need to appreciate people from different backgrounds. How does it sound?

Yes, we hope our children can 見識多d and be more open-minded, at the same time we are not sure if american culture would be much more free and open than expected or other cultures like UK? But you are right, I guess we need to really immerse in it to understand.

Thanks very much for your sharing, its so nice to have parents with experience sharing the insights.

各種原因。我覺得如果家庭本身好美式或者西化，小朋友讀得書，會自律，喜愛運動，在Hkis係如魚得水。我老公有澳洲老外朋友，佢對Hkis係極滿意。

我们G2到HKIS，觉得学校对小朋友的行为规范要求很严，但是对学术基本要求很低。学校很重视孩子的心理健康。

到中学会对学术越来越高要求，高中课程非常难。活动很多，对小朋友的自律要求很高。

就我个人而言，非常满意学校

Same observation in my kids’ schools too. They trust kids to take up the responsibility to be a world citizen, which is common objectives of different IS. I believe the major difference amongst them is really the system (IB vs AP vs A level) and how well they are run administratively. Yes, a lot of focus is put on students well-beings.
