我想知唔買 debentures, 一般等幾多年

其實應該未必等到，朋友都係上年報又係waiting，跟住今年再問，叫佢俾錢再報多次

No one can answer you, it really depends on how many leavers and what position are you on the waiting list.

I heard several kids leaving every term. I suppose no less than ten vacancies released each grade

I think you just pick up the phone and ask. That's the American way of getting things done.

Also, since term 2 fees had been paid, so presumably all slots opened up in term 2 (starting Jan) would have been taken up. So you may need to reapply. I think the waiting pool does not carry to next year. Again you can ask.

Attrition was lower in past year because of Covid. School said this but I don't know why. What grade are you applying? For middle school and above, it is usually much easier to have place available.

Also, why do you choose HKIS? Mindful about the expectatations you have.

Re: debentures: I believe they issued a new series of 100 debentures 2 years ago. A year ago some are still available but I don't know the case now. You can call the school (finance office) to ask. If all are subscribed, then it usually take many years to wait.

But for Upper Primary and above, I think it doesn't matter that much. Since they have standardised entrance test for those grades, it is far more important to do well in those tests.

As for middle school and above, their intake is more flexible. If you meet their requirements, you get in and if you got a waitpool position, that means No. Certainly no need for debenture

Thanks for your detail explanation. I’m applying for upper primary and they said wait pool is around 40 people. And debenture holder will jump in the queue anytime for higher priority to get in.
And I’m considering whether it is  worth to pay for another year for the waiting.
As we are not going to buy debentures, so wanna know the estimate time for waiting or actually it is hopeless

They don’t operate a wait list. It is a wait pool. So it doesn’t help how long you wait. As said, there is probably no place left for 2021/22. So you probably need to aim at 2022/23. It probably is late application now but you can call to see if you can apply.
Maybe your kid didn’t do as well in the assessment , or some other reasons?

For UP, they use MAP for assessment. You can obtain online resources (some are paid) to prepare. It helps with some drilling

For these selective schools, so call waiting is actually a new application and assessment every year, it’s not a rolling over list like ESF. So how long to wait should really be “how many times are you going to apply and retry”

7-8 years since kindergarten?
Would the waiting time be shorter if waiting for upper primary?

You can email HKIS to ask if you need to do reassessment again  next year, if so I believe it’s the same.
Usually the higher grades have more leavers and less on waiting list so the chance will be higher.

我哋在wait pool 等了半年收到call
在我小朋友grade, 共有6個2nd semester插班新生
