Apply UK Med school is a long preparation and application process. Some info for your ref :
- UK med school : it is true that every med school can take max approx 7.5% international students (international fee) that include EU students from 2021 entry (which was not before hence became more competitive from 2021entry). It is about 15-25 international students in total intake depends on how big the med school is.
- To increase UK med school successful rate : first very important step is to get prepared to get best score in UCAT (for most UK med school) and/or BMAT (for about 7 UK med school). This is the critical point to determine which UK med school you can apply in UCAS (out of total 4 med school) even you have full score in GCSE/IGCSE and perfect PG in Alevel.
- Some UK med school will count on GCSE/IGCSE (or equivalent) : this will form part of their selection scoring system for interview invites. No med student will be taken without interview. Some med schools will be GCSE/IGCSE heavily counted (i.e. Cardiff, QM, Queen's Bel, Nott, Leeds, Birmingham...).
If GCSE/IGCSE requirement is not met, rejection will be given upfront. (i.e. Cardiff 2021 entry min academic score 27/27 (UCAT cut-off unknown), Nottingham 47/56 (academic+UCAT), Leeds 35/37 (academic+BMAT)...etc......
So maximize interview chances will be critical to success. Selection criteria/scoring methodology are listed in each Med school web.
- Some UK med school will count on ALevel PG like Exeter (i.e. 3A*),QM..etc
- Some will mention in their web that GCSE/IGCSE will not be used for selection criteria
You will see how the differences of the selection process from each med school. So before making decision to take 1 year GCSE/IGCSE or to complete F.5 before entering into Alevel, you may try to figure out which med school aims at, work backward to see what their selection criteria will be and consider how to prepare and apply to own strength strategically.
For HK Med school, Get 4A* in Alevel and min a pass in Chinese Language GCSE/IGCSE.
