I think they are very different schools and it depends what you are looking for. ESF is a big school and with good track record, and ICHK is more of a small community. I like ICHK as a school as it offers huge space for sports activities and I like small schools. I am also impressed with their forest education. The only thing is they are quite far...

Same thought, in love with the campus after school tour. But commuting is really a big issue.

Yes we actually also understand that esf is more well established, while hly is very unique in terms of the environment

Indeed we live quite close to hly...and also esf wks....

I am not familiar with Ichk hly, but I prefer a small school/class during early school years over large class size in ESF.  If our kid’s learning and emotional needs are taken care of, they would more likely like school and learning.

And I believe the student mix in ichk hly is more diverse. Not sure if that is important to you.

According to this post, the percentage of local student for hly is quite high. I hope can still go for the face to face interview to find out more....

We are facing the same situation. We got the offer from ICHK and need to make the decision and pay the registration fee in two weeks.  Meanwhile, we got the interview invitation from esf, but the problem is esf will reveal the result only by mid Feb. So we analyze the pros and cons of both schools:
Pros of ICHK: small community school, means more attention to individual kid; big outdoor area to play, forest school theme (but from their facebook posts, most of the forest school activities are for high year primary and secondary students, not much for younger kids)
Cons of ICHK: the school facilities are a bit old, and tuition is higher

Pros of ESF: well recognized brand, good academic result of Shatin Junior and Shatin college
Cons of ESF: bigger number of kids in each class, tuition is cheaper

Depends on ur priority and the level of English of your kid. If you have confidence in getting an offer in esf. Forget about ICHK.

If you only have 50/50 to get esf offer . U can only give the deposit to ICHK and wait for the esf result ..

That’s my own opinion and what I would do if I were you.

ha, to be honest, I would rather prefer to be interviewed later, so you could get more time to wait for results from other schools and gain more time to make the decision.
The interview in ICHK, 8 kids in total, one mixed, one westerner, the rest are local. (only from the appearance, not sure about their actual nationality)

Even the interview postponed, the revised interview should be in Dec/Jan, unlikely to be later than esf...
I have been to esf playgroup and ICHK school tour, lean towards ICHK but as we are living in NT west, commuting to/from school is an issue...

Yes this is exactly what our concerns too!! When did you do the ichk interview? and when did you have the offer?

We had interview on 11/11.

My girl is studying ichk HLY reception. We accepted esf TY k1 offer before but I gave up at the end. I even paid the money already.

I do love ichk so much. Even my girl, she loves going to school. My foreign neighbor also suggested me to go ichk rather than esf before.

In their age, outdoor learning is really important. They have Forest school lesson every week. They do some planting, play the mud, get some sticks and stones and explore different insects. They also provide many experiments for them.

May I know if u would take ICHK’s offer?  Facing same situation as urs and 1516ing.....heard that 90% of those who have ESF interview offer would get in....

Just thought I'd chime in for parents reading this thread and offer an alternative view on class size.
My son is in primary school now and when he was in kindy, he went to one that had about 14-15 kids per class with 2 teachers, initially I thought small class size = better child development.

It turned out, my son was a very social person, and in hindsight he would have been much better off going to a large school where he could be with more people and played with a larger range of children.
