Academies
由政府資助，但是獨立的，這意味著它們對課程和學校的其他方面有更多的控制權。 能夠自定課程, 他們通過資助協議對自己的表現負責。




Maintained schools

由地方當局監督，必須遵循國家課程，並遵守國家的薪酬和教師條件。




Grammar School

Private School 私立學校


私立學校收取費用-較昂貴的私立學校往往是寄宿學校，學費涵蓋學期的生活費用。  可以根據學術才能或其他運動或音樂能力，通過獎學金來減少私立學校的學費，而有些則可為多個孩子上學提供折扣。  與文法學校類似，私立學校可以是選擇性的，並且經常通過入學考試來選擇學生。

A free school in England is a type of academy established since 2010 under the Government's free school policy initiative.[1] From May 2015, usage of the term was formally extended to include new academies set up via a local authority competition.[2] Like other academies, free schools are non-profit-making, state-funded schools which are free to attend but which are mostly independent of the local authority.[3] Free school is not a generic term for any school that does not charge fees.




So free school is a type of Academy schools now.


I think uk has too many different types of schools!


Academies are self-governing non-profit charitable trusts.


Last time I watched a bbc programme, some trust funds run things better than others, so it can be quite a different. Some trust funds did a very bad job in governing schools.

Evidence suggests children from middle class family are much more likely to be admitted into grammar school as their parents can afford private tutoring for their children. Even when the kids are of similar ability. There is also evidence that grammar school only promoting themselves in primary schools within middle class area; setting their school uniform at a very expensive price; long admission form for parents to complete before being admitted which only parents from middle class background has the knowledge to. This is known as the hidden selection.
All in all, children from working class background is disadvantaged from the 11+ as a results of material deprivation.

Thanks for the info!  請問Grammar Schools 是否像私立學校一樣小班教學? 教學資源是否充足? 我知要入Grammar School 要操練11+入學試。但入了Grammar School 後會否好似香港私校咁操?  還是都會像香港國際學校一樣著重思考,分析?
我兩個小朋友現在讀香港的國際學校。

The latter. Eldest at Grammar school, didn’t see the school push academically until Y11. Young one at a selective independent school; compared to  eldest’s school it has more homework and tests for Y9 & 10

Some private schools also have the name grammar school but they are independent school and they are not the gov funded grammar schools, they don't admit students through council and public 11 plus test.

Hence except the words "grammar school", they are not the state grammar school most people referred to.

So they don't classified as "grammar school", they are classified as "private school", also means "independent school" or "public school" in uk

我女係 grammar school, 佢好得閒下，我唔覺得「谷」，上到中學，係就自己肯去做，想迫到迫唔到！

不過我覺得佢d同學們都好自律，自己溫書做得幾好！
