We had been on waiting lists of both HKIS (Grade 3) and Harrow (year 4), but luckily we just have received the offers for both late last week and today.
We need to reply in about a week’s time. Can anyone advise the pros and cons of each and your choice if you are us. Many thanks!

I would choose Hkis if I were you only because our target is Us universities.

Besides, harrow is too far away from where we live

Congratulations!  Have you been to the school tour for both schools?
Aside from two different syllabus and location which your family may have preference over, by visiting the school (where both schools had student ambassadors touring you around) gave me quite a good gut feel about the schools back then.  Both are very good school so you won’t go wrong with any one of them, Harrow is very English whereas HKIS encourages individual growth (guided thinking & creativity development).

I think you may have a feeling as to which style your kids may suit better in ?

Pros of HKIS
Good quality teacher
a well planned curriculum
Kids feel strong sense of belonging
Truly multi cultural
teachers always come up with suggestions (what school can do, what family can do at home)  on areas to improve, if any, and never leave you (the parents) alone to tackle it.

I see.  For HKIS, it is mandatory school bus for primary.
One more thing, HKIS math is more like US math, for primary, it involves a lot of explanation and learning the foundation of math, if you are switching from local school, it maybe quite different from the math drill.

He is studying in another IS. The bigger concern is Chinese. I don't have high hopes for either school anyway.

BTW, how did you brush up your child's Chinese?

HKIS chinese is not considered the strongest amongst intl school, there is 45 mins chinese lesson in 5 out of 6 days in upper primary, in different streams.

I often admire those who can be truly billingual but in fact it is very hard to keep two languages native at the same time, verbal and written.  We do a little tutoring, just hoping to keep it up for them, and they are from local school, hope they had a foundation from then.

Agree with previous replies on whether you are aiming for US or UK universities.

If you are not a tiger mom and prefer a more balanced academic program that focuses more on growing the whole child then I’d recommend HKIS.

Harrow seems more focused on academics but they certainly do that very well.
