I was having the same dilemma and eventually I chose CDNIS.  It's only our personal preference as both are great school.  Agree with the comments posted by other parents in this thread.  It really depends on what you want.  CDNIS has a wider student mix and is definitely a happy school.  A lot of after school activities to choose from and teachers are generally caring and nice.  ISF is a private independent school and in view of its focus on Chinese, it has more students with local/ mainland background.  Academically more robust.  The students and parents I know there also speak quite highly of the school.

Same decision as yours. But difference is our kid was grade 7 at the time of switching. The academic performance is in fact similar at the upper school level.

So when will it start to be more academic? My son is in Prep now and heard from parents who kids are in G4, they are still very play based. Haha... but is good that they can enjoy school in primary.

Starts from grade 7 (upper school) it’s a different world. Lots assignments everyday which allows continuous improvement, which is the beauty of IB program.

We chose ISF over CDNIS for our son, at the kindergarten level. So far, we’re very happy with our choice. ISF Preschool is very play based but with a strong Chinese immersion program. We don’t speak mandarin at home but my son can converse quite fluently after 1.5 years.

Both are good schools. It really depends on family background and needs. We are a very western family and speak English at home with many non-Chinese friends. What we wanted was for our child to learn Chinese taught in a more ‘western’ style (ie not rote learning), with the time and ability to participate in extracurricular activities.
