How are Edexcel International A levels marked and graded?
Edexcel International A levels are modular qualifications made up of four or six separate units. You can complete individual units at different times throughout your course.
Usually, you’ll do half of the units in your first year of college or sixth form – this is your International AS level. You’ll then complete the remaining units in your second year of college or sixth form – this is your International A2.
You’ll be issued a UMS mark and grade for each unit and then when you complete the course you’ll ‘cash in’ to get an overall International AS or International A level grade.
•International AS units and cash-ins are graded A to E.
•International A2 units are graded A to E, but we publish the theoretical A* boundary.
•International A Level cash-ins are graded A* to E.
If you don't get enough marks to pass with an E you'll be awarded a U, which means 'unclassified'.

I resat a unit - which mark was used to calculate my overall grade? https://qualifications.pearson.com/en/support/support-topics/results-certification/understanding-marks-and-grades/understanding-your-results-information-for-students/edexcel-international-advanced-level-results-explained.html
You can resit our Edexcel International A level units as many times as you want and request a new overall grade. Providing you've been entered under the same Unique Candidate Identifier (UCI) number we'll use your best result from your two most recent attempts when calculating your overall grade.
If you're studying any of the following Edexcel International A level Mathematics qualifications and have previously been issued an overall grade, you need to make sure that your school or college have entered you for all of the cash-ins you are entitled to.
•Edexcel International AS Mathematics
•Edexcel International AS Further Mathematics
•Edexcel International AS Additional Further Mathematics
•Edexcel International A level Mathematics
•Edexcel International A level Further Mathematics
•Edexcel International A level Additional Further Mathematics
This is because cashing in for these qualifications can lock you're units to that qualification, preventing us from working out the best possible grade.
If you're unsure whether you've been entered for all of the correct cash-ins, the Exams Officer at your school or college should be able to help.

- 1 re-sit per unit before certification (only last 2 exam results eligible for grade award),
- May/June 2020 will be the final assessment for legacy unit(s).
IAL Re-sit
For all IALs, except for Mathematics, candidates will be able to re-sit individual units once before certification.
If candidates resit examinations more than once, only the last 2 results will be taken into consideration when awarding the grade. This means that the higher mark of the last two examinations will be used to calculate the grade.
For instance if a candidate sits an examination for the first time and achieve 80 marks and sit the same examination again and achieve 70 marks (80 marks will be used to calculate overall subject grade). However if the candidate sits the same examination again and achieves 60 marks, 70 marks will be used to calculate the grade (the first 80 marks is no longer valid as only the last two attempts will be eligible to use).
Candidates are only counted as taking an examination if they were present at the time of the examination. If a candidate is absent from the examination, it will not count as an attempt
Information Regarding GCE Certification and IAL Certification:
● Only GCE units can contribute to GCE awards. (IAL units cannot contribute to a GCE award).
● Candidates who wish to obtain IAL qualifications must use IAL units only to cash in for IAL qualifications.
● Candidates may enter for both GCE and IAL subjects. Candidates must use the same UCI for both the GCE and IAL examinations.
● Candidates who take IAL examinations will be awarded IAL certificates. IAL certificates will have Pearson Logo as they are regulated by Pearson.

e.g.由a*aa改為a*a*a
