Would having a child living in canada for university, be considered a tie?
The child is obviously a dependent, as all expenses and costs of education would be supported by parents.

refer to the link.i. attached above. from which u can refer to whether one is factual residents or deemed non.residents.

one cannot buy a car with an Intl driving license  used for more than 6 mos.  to obtain a valid can license, u need to be a resident.

dependents are under 18

A university student depending on parents financial support can be a dependent.

問咗 lawyer ，有樓出租 OK (but rental income 要比稅) ，冇影響 NR status。
但有樓自住一定唔得，有車 ...

讀大學子女已經over 18可以唔算dependent就不會影響父母tax status

多年前經驗 -子女over 18 attending full day school 父母可以選擇是否claim 他們做dependent

好奇一問,你地homestay點樣搵?  Host family / 居住環境有咩保證?
早幾年前我家對面屋搬來一家大陸人, 本來一家三口, 九月開學多了4-5個中學生, 半年後一齊搬走了.  
鄰居後來話係佢去左投訴呢家人違反single-family dwelling規例,政府派人上門睇,之後要佢地停止收留學生.
搬左邊我唔知,但我諗班學生父母一定很無奈.

呢方面我都想知道
有冇好似英國咁有呢方面agent？
唔好話環境
host family 係點都唔知
我亦搵唔到呢方面資料
有聽過每日包3餐
但只有超簡單嘅白麵包/牛奶/frozen food
另外host family 自己好少出街
小朋友亦好少出街而多數留喺房
唔係話要大魚大肉
但小朋友已經要自己1個住陌生人地方
我覺得已經好慘
仲要食/過咁嘅食物/生活
我覺得好難捱
當然呢個可能係少數例子

以往聽到，都係學校 referal 。
我朋友三十年前去加拿大讀書，也是 homestay。
但加拿大冇好似英國咁醒，發展成一個 boarding school & homestay 國家。
所以好似冇人 monitor 。

其實，可以當屋主租間房出去，只係包埋食。
咁，租房理論上要簽租約，租金收入要比 rental income 的 tax ，政府亦可以加業主地稅。
你對面屋的 case ，佢肯定冇簽正式租約，冇報 tax ，到政府查起上嚟就趕人走。


我外甥仔 (大學生) & 同學共 4 人租屋 (有香港人也有鬼仔)，租約要 parents co-sign。
另一外甥，自己向兩個年輕人 sublet 一個 condo 的一間房，冇簽租約，講明唔可以用地址做 mailing address。
我估政府捉得好緊。
