Why not "international"?

Someone has said already, ISF, VSA etc are not International schools in the traditional sense.  They are private schools.

They do provide a non-local curriculum.  If you want non-local curriculum, they belong to this category.  So is Han Academy.

But if your only criteria is Chinese, nothing beats going to a local school.

Each family is different. For my family, English is not a concern but Chinese. We are looking for a school which is strong in Chinese and teaches maths in English. Therefore, only very elite local schools can do so. However, my child didn't perform well in those elite school interviews so didn't get an offer. I'm very worried that my kid will end up going to a not so good local school. Therefore, I'm looking for alternatives from international schools.

No, there is a material difference.

International schools are “intended” for non-local students.  They typically have a 30/70 limit on local/non-local student requirement.

Private schools are intended to serve the needs of local students.  They typically have a 70/30 local/non local student requirement.

The more bizzare a thing is, the less mysterious it proves to be.

Specific requirement of maths in English?

Regardless of the language use in maths in primary years, most of them will migrate to English math in secondary.  Does it really matter?

Even non-elite local schools can be good schools.  Certainly in Chinese.
