國際幼稚園入本地名小學

想讓小孩讀國際學校幼稚園（>90% 一條龍），但同時補習去試試考本地名直私。
請問有無過來人可以分享一下成功或失敗的例子？要補甚麼？

its not impossible but why do it? its different culture and system. If you opt for IS, LS wont be your cup of tea. A relative just switched from LS DSS to IS, not all DSS's are the same but she bumped into a bad one that she trusted the principal's marketing too much. the school has lot of naughty kids and no discipline cos they just focus on academics and school never wants to communicate with the parents. They are very academic driven not that they teach you well but they rush through curriculum fast and expect the kids and parents to pick them up without asking questions. My friend eventually left in the middle of the term. Many kids didn't do well in such environment not because they're dump but they burned out fast in such competitive environment and lost confidence when one or two exams they failed to excel. Still many parents like its high band 1 rate and trust their kids will not be the bottom one.

I want to try this path because I think the quality of teaching in famous local schools should be good, and they are significantly cheaper than international schools.

I believe the quality of teaching in int school is good. We can afford international schools but it does pose certain financial pressure on our family, especially since we want to save money to send the kids for overseas universities.

So my ‘plan’ is to see if she can secure a place in international kindergarten, and thus in an international elementary school and so on, while supplementing with outside classes and try interview good local schools (private and dss mainly) when she gets to k2.

Does this make sense ? Thanks a lot for any advice!

It depends on your targeted DSS or elite local schools.

International kinder 中文可以話完全唔得，另外數學也因校而異。你可以讀兩間幼稚園，一國際，一名幼。d父母話當俾小朋友玩喎（返國際時）。

我知道考DB嗰班，唔少係舊生+讀國際學校

亦聽過Boxhill有一半人會去本地小學
咁樣行唔係唔得，但要有足夠嘅閱讀能力 (中+英 both)，基本數學能力
唔一定要去補，自己教會更好
仲要，你預咗陪佢適應，唔好對成績有太高期望

亦要預咗，搞唔掂可能要轉走

其實，有d中間路線嘅直私嘅....

I am also considering this option of attending two kindergartens.... but see which one is better: two kindergartens, or international kg plus outside tutorials

我個女係讀IS kinder 但我決定會讀直私小學，係想佢語言好d，language 巧緊要麻！佢衣家讀得happy ，我自己攪中文！我自己覚得冇錯或對，最緊要父母放多d時間！係有難度，但會堅持。

請問什麼IS kinder? K2 之後升year 1 先or 找local k3 讀住先？

咁其實你小朋友讀的是本地英普私幼，應該不是樓主所指的international kinder

識兩個 case，一個讀 Victoria，一個讀 ISF，之後入 DBSPD。

我只可以話，如果你走去讀「真正」嘅IS kinder, 之後走去讀local名校，俾你入到，一係中文追唔上，一係勉強叫追得上但追到氣咳。

中文難學過英文，個細路一開咗個頭，通常都寧願寫英文字睇英文書都唔想走去睇中文書寫中文字。

咁當然又會有人跳出黎話我個仔或者人地個仔由IS kinder 上local school P1都冇問題云云。

咁實有人得架，不過比例有幾多？又係咪人地得你嗰個又一定得？

We have similar plans for our son too (he's in K2 in IS but we struggle to give up his Y1 offer and resort to K3 in a local KG and then apply for P1 the coming year).
I have been teaching him Chinese (reading and writing) myself in these 2 months. He progresses pretty fast and I'm not very worried about bridging to K3 next year. Honestly, what we miss about IS is it allows my son to have lots of time for extensive reading, which is essential for his future development.
But honestly, we're not very confident in getting him to enter a prestigious DSS/Private sch as there is such a keen competition this year.
