My son is studying in a local school P5. We are looking for more options for him for secondary school. We are not familiar with IS compared to traditional local school.

What about the discipline, academic level and Chinese level in the above IS? Pls share your experience. Many thanks.

回覆樓主

I think among 3 schools, SIS Chinese is the most advance. However, they are using simplified Chinese. For CDNIS, they have 4 streams, the top 2 streams are using traditional and the top stream apparently they are using local textbook (same as 英華小學). Can’t comment on CAIS, not too familiar. In relation to discipline, I think SIS might be the most strict. As the follow the culture of Singapore?!

我一直都以為SIS中文水平应最高,但2017年ib只有32% bilingual diploma, 假設全部學生考中英文,即只有32%中英都考first language,遠比想像中低

Actually, if you look into the IB diploma program and in order to receive IB bilingual diploma you must study literature (文學). If you do not study literature, even your Chinese paper get A, you won’t receive IB bilingual diploma. So IB bilingual diploma doesn’t mean much.

Thanks so much for your response.
Is the workload of SIS similar to the local school as it has higher academic expectation?

I have a friend his son used to study in St Jo till P4 then transferred to SIS studied for 4 years already. The parents said workload is so much less demanding than St Jo. 功課少啲抄寫同覺得有意思啲

I think none of the IS can have homework load comparative to the local schools, not even the most academic ones. And the quality of homework are at least much better.

He was doing ok but just too much workload, which the parents think is a bit over. Also the 通識教育is a bit off for a primary kids..

From my observation, for SIS primary, homework is not too much, but they are quite demanding, and somewhat difficult....anyway, the students still love the school.... this academic year, the 'not so popular' principal has gone and a more positive and open-minded principal has come...hope everything for SIS will be doing fine

It takes time to see the noticeable changes after the change of the principal.  Yet, I heard from teachers and other parents that the new principal is more open-minded to accept opinions from parents and teachers...e.g. about lowering the difficulty of Chinese (current curriculum was adjusted to a nearly insane level of difficulty according to IS standard)... Under the new leadership, it is hoped that the relationship between the school and the teachers will be improved and the 'brain drain' problem of quality students in the Secondary (to other top IS) will be stopped. ....
