Since you are asking IB, I assume your child is about to take IB diploma (year12). For IB, you only need to take two languages. English plus another language (Chinese, Spanish, French and German). There are 3 categories, being first language (if so, u get a bilingual diploma), second language and beginners level. For 1st n 2nd language, it's further classified into SL and HL. I know only a very few schools in hk offer IB German (only GSIS and KGV afa I'm aware of). You might need to follow school curriculum for IB choices as that involves ongoing assessments and the school mock exam in year 13 will get you the predicted grades for university application. You might need to check with your school and your child is very keen to do German, then you might need to change to another school.
