應會好混亂。你仲要教識佢繁简对照。即每差不多每個字学2次

This is the plan for my girl also. I do believe being able to practice and use what you learn in your environment is very important to keep them interested. They won't be apply simplified Chinese in HK and they will really feel defeated and lose their interest in learning, and Chinese really is one of the hardest language and they will need to be motivated to keep them going.

is it common for Chinese parents here to give kids extra Chinese lessons in traditional Chinese ? I would guess we are not alone.

Totally agree. Learning traditional Chinese gives the kids more opportunities to practice the language in real life if you live in HK. My kids' school teaches simplified Chinese while my private tutor teaches them traditional Chinese. The result is my kids can basically read and understand all the notices or signs or menus they come across in real life while their classmates who only learn simplified Chinese can hardly understand and order from the menu when they dine at Chinese restaurants.As for whether there will be confusion, I think it varies from kid to kid. My elder son has no confusion at all while my little girl has confusion sometimes but not very often.
My kids told me that it is in fact easier to learn/read traditional Chinese characters than simplified Chinese characters as traditional Chinese characters usually show or give them hints about their meanings or how to pronounce them. However, when writing, simplified Chinese is easier.
