I believe so. ESF foundation schools will tell you before the interview whether your child is interviewing for a guaranteed place (i.e. firm offer) or a reserved place, while RC and DC will interview your child first and then decide whether to give him/her a firm offer or a place on the reserved list.

Bad luck, and it really is down to luck rather than ability. Each applicant is assigned a random number and if your son's classmates got invited it simply means they got assigned a better number or have a higher priority (e.g. being a sibling), it doesn't mean they're "better".

No worries, that's part of the application procedure and we have to accept this. Think this is still a relatively fair system to all.

Fatty daddy thanks for your info, seems we are lucky to be in the reserve list, we are Cantonese family plus local happy kinder, hope my son can meet their entry requirement in English

Certainly not the case for those in kowloon and NT. Even for BHS, used to be least competitive among the 3, some received reserved space interview chance only. Guess it may be worse for KJS and SJS. More dragon B (more siblings) and the new Tung Chung kinder have quite some impact

Same.... applying SJS.... studying private kinder in kln tong.
Understood the system is fair... but paying $2000 application fee with NO interview chance granted in 1st round is really frustrating....

For those in SJS catchment who don't have interview offer at the first round, I highly recommend u to Have contingency  plan coz the probability of no interview offering eventually is SUPER high!!

I don't think so.  My boy is a current student of esf but he is only offered an interview  for reserve list.

The $2000 application fees can be rolled over and over for a chance to be called for interview until Y6 if you choose to stay on the waiting list, it's not too bad!

We get reserve list interview as well and we are in ESF kinder
