ESF primary will visit ESF kinder in prior to interview notification?  As such, whether receive interview invitation or not depends on the performance during the visit?

No. as mentioned in the previous school talk, the visit just offers a chance for the kids to get familiar with the teachers whom they would meet in the interview.

We got the email today too, saying we are on the reserve list, we are offered an interview on Jan 24 but even successful doesn't mean can offer a place in August 2017........
What's the difference between reserve and waiting list?

My email only asked us to attend the interview. There was no mentioning of reserve or waitlist, but neither does it say it's for a guaranteed place. Does it mean it is actually for a guaranteed place?

We are QBS, I guess if no reserve list is mentioned, means if your kid is successful through the interview, u will be offered a place for August, but for us who are in the reserve list, even my kid is successful in the interview, we have to wait for the next available space in year 2 or after......

But I guess we are still ahead of those who apply after the central application, but how long actually is the reserve list??? I m not sure

We haven't decided to go for local or international yet, so I don't know how the application process of ESF actually works

Don't worry too much.. the kids who have offer on reserved list usually will get a spot in Feb, if you have first round interview.

we are so blessed to have the interview offer. we are 100% cantonese family. no english at home.

Well, maybe each school has slightly different. For our experience, the kids who was on reserved list (from ESF Kindergarten) all got the offers in Feb except one failed the interview, might be just because of the English level  didn't reach the entry requirements.

There are 3 types of notices:-

(1) Invited to interview for a guaranteed place - If the child passes the interview then he/she is offered a place in the coming Y1.

(2) Invited to interview for a place on the reserved list - If the child passes the interview then he/she will be put on the reserved list, and according to ESF's experience over the years, those who are on the reserved list would most probably get a place later in the year when other applicants might decline their offer.

(3) Not invited to interview but placed on the waiting list for an interview - After the first round of interviews are completed in January, the schools may hold additional rounds and the candidate may get invited to one of these later rounds.

At this stage I don't think there is a "reject" letter as such, but obviously being in situation (3) is the least desirable. With Y1 places being in high demand, even some children with ESF kindergarten priority may find themselves in situation (3).

Am I right to say that the email today from ESF schools (e.g. SJS/BHS) disclosed which category your kid is in but the email from the Independent Schools (RC,DC) does not?

My son got case 3 today... the school strongly advise us to seek for alternative school... (emoji)
