如題,朋友個仔宜家讀local school P2,test result証實佢智力正常而且記憶力好好。但因呢個問題local school嘅中文要求對佢嚟講太demanding 所以改慮轉IS,邊間會有好嘅support同易轉得入呢?

Would attending IS be a huge challenge for him?
IS would be teaching in English. The daily language used at school would be English.

So he will face the same issue with reading and writing.
Just that the problem is no long the issue of using Chinese language but English language.
The design of western curriculum (any western curriculum) is that, children would be asked to do lots of reading and writing.
They might not have to do that at home (i.e. little homework), but they have to read and write a lot at school.

Yes. Most IS will have some kind of support for special needs children.
But the support is usually simply some kind of remedial classes (like pulling out "weak" students for small group learning).

This only mean these children are allowed to learn at a slower pace. But there will probably be no genuine extra help that is tailored for dyslexic children.
I am not sure which IS do have special programs for dyslexic children.
The best thing is still calling each school by phone and ask.

I know some IS (e.g. ESF) allow special needs children to have a "shadow teacher" or "special teaching assistance" with them, at parents own cost (a few years back, the costs was already more than $10000 per month as the person will be with that particular child all the time at school in class and outside class).
So getting into IS might actually not a genuine solution for them.
More, it is very hard to get place in IS now once you missed the Year 1 intake.
In any case, like I said, ask your friend to call each school up and ask.
No harm asking.

At the same time, I suggest you friend investigate into whether there are local schools that have better support for students like this child.
I think I read it in EK//BK there are some local schools (not traditions local elite schools, but second tier regional schools) have very good support to special needs students (including dyslexic children).
This you need to really ask around.
Can the specialist that diagnosed the child as dyslexic have any information at all of which local school might be suitable?

Thanks for your advice, I think the reason why my friend is wanting to change to an IS simply because the issue is much worse with reading and writing Chinese characters, especially with the demanding curriculum at a local school. Sure I think he would have similar issue with English but perhaps the environment of an IS is more supportive and accepting for a dyslexic child. They live in Kowloon so they do prefer a school near them but so far it would seem most ISs are a bit out of the way.
Yes I did ask her to be upfront with the schools too so she has a better chance of picking the right one.

Ask your friend to attend a school tour with The Harbour school. Just go and your friend will see if it suits a kid with special needs. Seriously.

As suggested try harbour school , if she applied for other more popular IS, at this grade they may start to test reading and writing and it may not be easy for him to pass the entrance test.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I have conveyed your suggestions to my friend. I'm not exactly sure how bad the kid is with reading English but it sounds like it's less of a problem...
