I have a friend that moved from Toronto to Hong Kong with his family while his kids were still in primary school, and then moved back to Toronto 4 years later. He kids were with ESF school during their stay in Hong Kong. He told me that his kids had no problem moving here to Hong Kong and moving back to Toronto in terms of school curriculum. So I think there is probably no huge issues which international school they are in now.
Having said that, you might wish to start planning seriously which curriculum you want to put them into when they start secondary school.Most IS in Hong Kong offer IBDP as a pre-university curriculum. ESF are moving towards through train IB. There are other schools that provide other curriculum like CDNIS and CAIS providing canadian curriculum, and ICS and AIS providing american curriculum. I would not say which one is better but they are all different and are suitable for different people.
My suggestion is to try to stay in the same curriculum for the last 4 years of secondary school in order to avoid problems with changing curriculum. (Not saying there is anything wrong changing school/curriculum though. Just my suggestion.) Most Canadian and US universities ask for up to 4 years of high school transcripts.
