其實你放女女去library比佢揀會好d，不一定要限lexical level

好書如Galaxy zack字超簡單，另外好作家如
Enid B 用字不一定深

或者孩子根本不喜歡看哈利波特, 喜歡看福爾摩斯呢?

其實看Harry Potter不是看英文程度或者是之前看了些什麼書, 而是看身邊的同學有沒有在看, 而孩子自己對題材有沒有興趣.

妹妹正是在小四升小五這個暑假開始看Harry Potter, 很沉迷地一個星期看三本.  她就是受同學的影響, 因為班上有幾個同學已看完或正在看, 那些同學還經常和她分享故事內容.

Percy Jackson 之後try heroes of Olympus series. Personally I think these 2 series are more interesting than HP. But if your daughter can read Olympus she can read HP.
Narnia is harder than all these as the language is more arcane.
Another one to try is the Hobbit.

My son is an early reader so he has read most of the books you mentioned in a very young age. But from my experience you have to be careful as if they are used to read HP, magic treehouse, Percy Jackson this sort of modern 流行小說it's hard for them to go back to the read the classics. So looking back I won't encourage them to read too much of these too early. Just my two cents.

The classics? You means such as Nineteen Eighty-four, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations.

那當然做家長的在適當時間推一把也是有用的.  暑期初我就曾鼓勵妹妹在這個暑假看Harry Potter, 並先買了第一集, 再在書展買2-7集.

回應你的問題. 妹妹在小二開始看Roald Dahl較薄的那幾本. 小三看Rainbow Magic, Magic Tree House等, 小四上看厚的Roald Dahl例如 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach等, 小四下主要看一整套 Cat Warriors.

Dickens are too difficult for them as the materials are too dark and sad. Referring to charlotte's web, secret garden, little house on the prairie, or even narnia, Mary poppins etc. once kids are used to those fast paced books like HP it's hard for them to read those written in the old days but I think those are important for their development.

在閱讀的大海裏, 我真係無目標俾佢, 最緊要佢開心睇, 隨心所欲

睇書都要講level, 好似學樂器咁?

同輩間既影响大，HP其實唔太深，同學間有人開始睇，開始有人討論故事情節，只要小朋友鐘意個故事，好快就想睇。

我由佢小二問到小三問佢有冇興趣睇HP，佢都話冇，我話你都冇睇過，你試吓先，佢先講原來佢同輩shared過俾佢睇過唔知第三定第四集某一節，佢好詳細咁講返俾我聽啲情節，然後話佢當晚即刻發惡夢，所以佢唔想再睇。

所以我覺得應以興趣先行……所謂看懂，其實小二看同小五看跟中學看的懂，其實也有分別，我想用這作閱讀程度的指標就不太有意思，如去英國，反而之前借啲關於Queen Elizabeth的書，或者paddington bear 的書，讀吓再別康橋的詩，可能仲interesting.

女兒已讀了很多paddington bear的書, 之前是一位英國人強烈推薦的, 他說paddington bear是每位英國人的童年回憶.
