The problem is mainly with admission selection criteria.
We all know that YWPS is a top tier primary school and its top students can easily get an offer from other Band 1A schools. With just 50 places allowed for external students, YWC should have brought in more students with good academic performance to replenish the talent pool. However, the school still prefers some students excel in extra-curricular activities, particularly sports to those high academic achievers.
Secondary school is different from primary school. The learning atmosphere among students are equally important as the quality of teaching. How can you create a good learning atmosphere if you don't have sufficient good students?
I can see the vision of the management of other good schools. Like DBS, it places a strong emphasis on Chinese Languages proficiency in the admission selection criteria after its failure in the first DSE Chinese Languages exam result. Like SJC, it offers more places to SFA and SJAC students with strong academic performance after its feeder primary school changed to full day mode and the proportion of Band 1 students decreases. All these action will definitely have an impact on their future DSE results.
If YWPS is a private school like Ramondi, I will choose it over APS. However, with the DSS thru train arrangement and a mediocre secondary school as a burden, my pick is APS.
