SIS 真係好谷嗎？

啲人話讀SlS同讀Local school 冇分別仲要貴咁多，又享受唔到讀international school 既freedom.

有冇用家可分享吓？真係咁多功課，測驗同考試？

初小一定吾係。小一無考試，一星期無功課的日子比有功課的多。小二有期終考，吾係日日有功課，有都係好少，假期前無也功課，但非常鼓勵閱讀。

Jane1983, 想問問我的兒子是12月細仔，如想apply SIS, 是否一定要跟學校網頁的school year申請，他們會否接受下一年變大仔申請？謝謝！

吾敢講，因為可能年年吾同，又有國民/sibling的酌情處理，你打去問admissions穩陣d。但讀緊的，就識吾只一個係12月的超大B。

每個小朋友適應不同, 只能說, 我見友人2個孩子, 大的那個讀到初中才轉走, 小的那個讀完2年級便轉走去自由點的學校.  朋友沒有說谷與否, 不過就說學校沒有之後轉去的國際學校那麼活.  其實SIS跟其他IS相對起來, 比較傳統一點已是不爭的事實.  亦有友人的孩子3個都在SIS唸完小學才去其他IS, 她說覺得SIS很有規矩, 相對其他IS比較嚴厲, 但她很滿意.  就看你求什麼.

I think what justifies SIS's value-for-money, among many good attributes, is its bilingual environment.   Students could naturally develop native level of spoken English and nearly native level of spoken Putonghua.

I also believe you cannot avoid some necessary degree of drilling through exercises, tests and examinations if you wish to build up a stronger foundation in languages, Math and Science as well.  

The amount of homework, tests and exams, according to my observation from my 3 kids, is just right.   Just that I think the Chinese language level is a bit too high / too demanding as far as an IS student is concerned.

And most important of all, they love their school and they love going to school.   The standard and the demand are high; yet, it won't destroy their love to the school and their interest in pursuing knowledge.   Given its high demand in students' intellectual capabilities, I believe it may not suit all types of children, and the best timing to join the school is from PY1 so that they could get adapted to the bilinual teaching right beginning from the starting point.

Final words - the best way to understand a school is through visits, talking to the students and watching their behaviors.

Hi, my gal is currently studying in a local primary school and she gets admitted to P2 of SIS in the coming school year. I am still struggling whether to let her switch to SIS so grateful if you can advise:-

a) how comparable the standard of Chinese subject in SIS with local primary school?
b) how many exam/tests each year in P3 and above? How many homework every day on average? Would there be a lot of projects for each subject?
c) What kind of schools the kids normally go to after finishing the P6? I heard some people said that the standard of their P6 graduate is below other international school like CIS so it is difficult for them to transfer to top tier international school after P6 study.

如果你不是國民，考到呢间，你小朋友都有實力考到其他你心儀的。有懷疑，就一動不如一静，又唔係唔使錢。

樓上講得啱，有懷疑就唔好轉了。免得一路俾自己小朋友返學，一路對間學校不滿，可能最後要轉多一次校。要知道無論小朋友適應力有幾強都好，每次轉校對小朋友都會或多或少既影響，不論好或壞的影響。

You do not seem to know much about SIS, yet you still decided to apply and even got acceptance.
Why did you even want to apply to a school which you seem to have so much doubt?

=> hard to say, I don't know much about the current Chinese programme in local school.  I just know my son's P.3 Chinese is more difficult than mine in a local school some 30+ years ago.

P3 - 2 exams.. a few bite-size tests, projects - not many.

=> They now will go to SIS Secondary after the establishment of the new Secondary Campus.... the time of 'Exodus' I think has ended?  In the past, many will go to GSIS / CIS to continue secondary education because the old SIS campus was not so well established.

< Final words - If you think the current local school is good enough, just stay.  I think stars will shine everywhere. >

Thanks everyone for the advice. Just want to clarify some points in mind to make sure it is a correct decision to switch school.

識一個以前 SIS 的，又唔似只差一年。不過只是一個案，代表性不大。

番查 2013 Bilingual Diploma 有5/23，也不錯。

我大女在中學部，兩個小的在小學。大女的功課壓力就真的比較大，學校也okay谷的，因為她下年要考IGCSE，學校想拿好成績就一定會谷，而且她們的試卷也是比外面的難。但兩個小的就很開心，功課可能算多但學到很多東西。SIS跟其它國際學校不同的就是她們真的有 end of year exam，就好像 local school 一樣年末的時候有年終考試和成績表和排名

不是，都是前三名，她們會在年終頒獎禮領獎，但始終高年級的都知道大約自己排在哪裏，老師又會說誰拿到最高分那些

其實sis 中文吾淺，同local school 一缐小學差不多，不過作文比較少.我女兒四年級

小學作文比較少，但一到中學作文量就多很多，大女中三，她這個暑假要作一篇閱讀報告，一篇議論文和一篇抒情文。上個學期她都作了很多篇文章，連考試都有一張paper 是要作兩篇文章的。
