這間學校

SIS,CIS,ISF,VSA, ESF,RC,GSIS ,DELIA,YCIS , 我都有機會分享

我是極度理性的父母, 父母當然想人讚自己仔女間學校

見到父母非理性地讚自己學校, 令人嘔心

我由學生所遇到的困難方向寫

CDNIS 的老師質素高

學歷高

行IB 下, 讀完 MYP 時都很開心

學生什少轉校, 一轉校, 就是父母決定他們去海外, 非他們自願

如果你是早送入去時, 當時未行IB

當時未行IB, 去到MYP, 父母都未覺問題


一到IB DP時, 巨大的壓力便出現

是前他們一生人所未有的壓力

因為MYP 無壓力

一路升學 之後 有不少同學就走

走去2個國家多,

一個美國, 一個英國寄宿學校

最主要, 想當地升學, 或不想讀IB DP

CDNIS 大概8成華人

但此批華人, 同學間講英文’

放學都係講英文為主

同學英語ORAL水準相當高

及得上外國人


數學水平, 一般

中文水平,  都係一般, 叫做差

中文國語無問題, 廣東話也沒有問題

但就差, 一級你預大概只有4-5人讀中文LANG A 

識法文的人不多

 


老師教學 及 考核似外國大學咁教

上堂少用書, 你自己回家看

上堂用NOTES, 之後給題目做

測驗不多, 但一來就大野

無分SET,校內競爭不太大

同學之間感情好

校內預測的分, 無情講

老師很嚴格, 很難很難給7分(英基,男拔,SIS有情講)

也許外國人做事手法, 無就係無

你預測成績多少分, 都不知

CDNIS 學生 大膽接受大家挑戰

他們放學後, 你可以到CDNIS  門口附近, 1小時

看看他們講英文能力


TOK/EE 做前, 老師, 為了確保同學, TOK/EE ,不會出事

在GRADE 11時, 通常會叫佢地做一個MOCK TOK/EE

試下一次先

因為不少IB 國際學校 TOK/EE  0 分及1分的學生極多(這就是質素問題)

不過老師測驗, 不同其他國際學校

特別是IB MATHS , 出得遠比Past Papers深

讀IB 的過程,極痛苦

英文只能選LANG A SL/HL

SL 的較多

多數父母有外國藉, 在海外升學

多數較一般能力的學生

在加拿大讀大學

細小學時, 上堂時, 上中文堂, 都同外國人一齊讀中文

你想到此便知中文佢地有多水皮

早期摧谷的父母不多

勿忘初心

當初你不想走香港中小學摧谷的路線, 才送他們來國際學校

而家來到國際學校, 你又谷?


學校好心, 在過渡myp 與dp 之間

做得好些小

一上grade 11, myp天堂變dp 地獄

咁攪法,最後有學生爆煲

IB是一個緞練孩子的優秀課程,壓力是存在,卻不需誇大而視之。平常心面對,孩子的能力絶對超于父母的保護區內極限。今天不讓孩子上這一課,那以後可以怎樣辦?繼續努力的左閃右避嗎?

80% Chinese? Far from my expectation!  Even more than RC?? Hk or Mainland? I thought there were many expat families in CDNIS.

I think HIH's point is that jump from MYP to IBDP, not the pressure of IB itself.

Many schools uses IB but not MYP and the students are more or less well prepared for IB. The question is, is it the problem of the MYP program or the problem of this school in particular? Can parents with kids in the MYP program share about this?

This year the IB association has 'improved' their MYP program by allowing for more external testings. Do you think that would help bridge the gap?

HIH, thank you for your detailed analysis, esp those in the upper years. It is very helpful in deciding what i should be planning now. From your experience, how would you compare CDNIS vs HKIS?


Just wondering about two conflicting statements though:

"CDNIS 大概8成華人" (my observation this is not true, although the actual figure is a bit more then i expected)

"細小學時, 上堂時, 上中文堂, 都同外國人一齊讀中文  你想到此便知中文佢地有多水皮"
(although streaming starts from Grade 1 into native and foreign streams, then further breaks down to 4 streams from Grade 2-3, 所以小一開始已經不是同外國人一齊讀中文)

For the benefit of a doubt, if both statements above are true, then you mean 20% of the students who are non-Chinese are dragging the rest of the class down? (say, 5 students out of 25 kids in a class)


I do agree that CDNIS's level of Chinese 比上不足 (CIS/SIS/ISF),但比下有餘 (ESF/GSIS/ICS). I guess at the end of the day, it is a package deal. Every school has its pros and cons, and i do appreciate it that you lists out both for every school.   Some facts are incorrect, however, as i had stated above.

CDNlS綱頁資料:2014年lB共121學生,20個(17%)獲bilingual diploma, 其中有13個考Chinese A, 其餘7個相信是考 SSSTL: LIT, 請問這個是什麼?

School Support Self Taught Language.
My daughter had a Japanese classmate in DP. Our school did not offer Group 1 Japanese. So she had to do it as "self taught".

親友中有好幾個小朋友讀cndis,初中,純品聽話(當然家教有功),但聽他們講,雖然無local咁癲,但虎媽亦不少,補習亦不是罕有事。

幼稚園及小學用 kelso's choice 教 ethics and decision making. 開始看見功效。我孩子那班,同學間相親相愛得令人感動;老師的感化可記一功。


聽說再讀上去補習風氣非常利害,我也為之憺憂。但現時幼稚園孩子們課外活動都以(多項)運動為主,也不少play dates。當然不少家長加上補中文,偶爾也會有小朋友上phonics, 但應該不是大部分人。

Don't forget why this school is established. It is mainly for HK who hold Canadian passports. Go and have a glance of the composition of the school members. As more mainlanders become Canadian, more mainlanders got in for sure. I guess there is at least 50% ethnic Chinese. You cannot expect there are huge number of "Canadian expat" to fill up the school.

From my observation about 50-60% ethnic Chinese, but many parents grew up overseas and cannot read or write Chinese (and speaks poorly). There are over 40 nationalities within the school as well, so passport priority isn't everything. They do select first the kids who do very well during interview, so many parents I met are not Cdn citizens. We've got British, European, American, Koren and even South African passport holders. Their kids are just socially pretty bright. Surprisingly, no mainlander in our class... Maybe it's just our class...

亞裔學生要入世界一流大學,個hurdle真係高過白人和黑人好多,有說入Ivy leagues, 亞裔SAT要高白人百幾分,要高黑人400幾分,係現實。除非無要求,否則吾到你吾低頭。

但讀IS,只要家長毋望初衷,始终都吾係local果種甘壓逼,小朋友都快樂的。我亲友個仔初中,受同學影響,叫亞媽带佢去xx评估和補習,要中文叻d。甘個仔甘生性,自己有心,同一般送佢補,又不盡相同。

For you friend's son, is he in IS or LS? Quite impressive to ask for 要中文叻啲 if he is in IS. May I ask which school he is in? Anyhow, it really depend on the individual child. Given my current observation, the sun might need to rise from the west before my son would initiate studying...
