SIS vs DBSPD

My son is studying in PY2 at SIS but he got offer from DBSPD for P1 next year.
We are about to tell the school if we wants to stay in SIS for P1. Please provide advise as we feel a bit struggle as Borh are good schools.

thinking points:

1.  which school you think your boy would be happier going?
2.  do you prefer a same-sex school or a co-ed school?

In our kids' case....the answers go for SIS....so, in the first place, we decided not to apply for any other primary schools when they were in PY2.

DBS for sure if I were u as DB also has IB and uses traditional Chinese

睇吓你係吾係Singaporean。如果係，可以去Dbs，因為有回頭路。

如果係典型香港廣東話家庭，SIS比到小朋友的英普教育和語境係絕無僅有，吾係讀名校再補習可以比擬。

DB offers 2 routes: HK DSE or IB. If your son may go for HK uni or medicine or law in future, HK DSE seems a much better choice.

i vote for DBS
- strong alumni
- its a highly selective school which means outstanding peer group and would stimulate kids learning (kids learn from each other as well) but pressure might be also bigger
- if you are local chinese, your boy will also build long term friendship with other boys at DBS, to me this is something IS cannot offer as majority of kids at IS are foreigners
- super campus
- traditional chinese learning
- both cantonese and mandarin is chinese, learning to speak mandanrin is not something hard to do and DBS also 普教中right?

right....the remarkable environment for English and PTH  provided by SIS....and....yes.... it was the nearly native speaking ability in both languages of the students that attracted us in the first place.

The dilemma is that dad is a Singapore citizen (originally from Hong kong) but we are actually a Cantonese family. My son's English improves significantly after studying PY2 for just 5 months (previously from ST Cat). He used to be not quite adaptable to such IS environment but he is getting better and happier now.
Personnally I have strong preference on DBS but we afraid my son's English will not be as good as IS student standard if studying in DBS. Also, my son is gentle (斯文型）style and we worry that he cannot "survive" in boys school....

如果經濟不是問题，我選sis。中西合璧，校風纯樸，严謹，學術强勁又不是死讀書。boys有好多運動玩。

Well…if you are aggressive and ambitious, then DBS is definitely your cup of tea.

I think you will simply get most replies that go for SIS here, but if you post on 小一選校 or 小學雜談 you will probably get overwhelming replies that go for DBS. So it's actually a v personal choice depending on your own preference and plan for your boy.

DBS is not 普教中，they teach Chinese in Cantonese.

Actually why did u apply DB in the first place when your son has already been settling in sis?

Originally, we were afraid of the P1 interview system and so we applied SIS as a good option since Dad is a Singaporean. We still tried to apply some good local schools and we were so lucky to get DBS offer.

As mentioned before, my son was not really happy in the first few months as he went to a "different world" when he was at school. He just gets better recently...

就你的兩点試答:1.這個當然了，雖然dbs最top的学生英語水平高，但in general,学校的英語環境，教師的英文水平遠比SIS 低。如果上到中学，就更 糟了，很多老師的英文實在…差，當然IB除外。
2.我估斯文型在boys' school未必是問題，你不必过慮，关鍵是他個人夠唔夠assertive，和夠自信。一或是比較怕事，鹌？如果是前者加斯文，ok.但若是後者，就要諗清楚。
