係呀個個小朋友都唔同， 我兩個仔仔都唔同， 大仔只睇唔讀， 細仔會自己讀， 不過兩個都睇得明白。 大仔英小小四， 所有英文教的都不用溫習， 中文雖然未教都已經識d 字， 但比較吃力。細仔K2， 暫時中英都平均。

個人不是太buy羸左起跑線, 因我個女就係實例.  佢開頭慢, 但後勁又叫ok.  我屋企買書都係爆哂棚, 但唔會理佢睇物.  不過我會導讀下, 主要係買唔同作者的書和不同題材, 唔好等佢睇死幾套書, 等佢接觸多d唔同層面同不同角度的寫作方法. 佢鍾意嘅書, 可以返睇十次八次, 我都唔會理佢.  因我地返is, 有中文家教, 家教同我講, 睇書不重量, 因為每次重睇, 小朋友都會有新發現. 另外, 一位英文老師亦同意, 所以我唔刻意追求數量, 好似st paul co ed, 一年要小朋友交80本書閱讀報告, 於是有小朋友會揀d最短嘅書睇, 對書內容了解亦唔深入.   你問佢讀後感, 佢都係好片面咁答.  睇書係個人發展同興趣, 唔係一場比賽.

個人揀書, 比較喜愛1970之前的兒童作品, 比較有童真, 德育方面意識亦較正面, 而且文筆同用字都比較好.  流行作品我只會買一d比佢, 其他叫佢係圖書館借.  只要佢鍾意, 就算有d難, 佢都會睇哂.  最近搵左套borrowers比佢, 文筆比較舊, 我以為佢會好難睇, 點知佢話係有d難, 但係唔洗一星期睇哂四五本.  另外, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Little House series都係好書.

我個女而家讀緊相等於本地小三, geronimo佢會睇,harry potter又睇, little women呢d, 同一d歷史文化都會睇.  基本上我任佢發展, 最緊要係合適小朋友本身興趣同能力, 唔好成日數住佢到level幾, reading is pleasure, not homework!  剛過去的復活節外遊, 好在我買左本kindle比佢, 佢坐車睇書, 排隊(成45分鐘)睇書...所有空檔都睇書, 冇一刻鐘係悶嘅.  我細個個其實唔睇咁多書, 但比家姐影響下, 冇野做時, 有時攪下家姐, 有時睇下書, 否則我d時間都好難過.

所以都要去圖書館大量借其他書， 不論level, 不論種類。

不看電視這習慣是關鍵, 睇開電視會有心癮, 唔睇開佢唔會問, 好自然會睇書又或做其他野 (我個仔就係踢波).  唔好諗住靠電視教幼童英文, that's not how it works.

我會推薦Letterland, 記熟咗26個character 嘅發音，再大量閱讀已經可以認讀好多字。k2後可再考慮轉去synthetic phonics 學較有系統嘅blending

我用呢兩套書自己教, 冇請人教, 冇出去學, 學校冇教.  到佢入 IS 小一時, 學校本來要分level, 但佢已學哂, 所以一上堂就係assign 書比佢睇 (當時佢4歲8個月).  唔係所有字可用phonics拼, 所以都要讀書, 英文好多irregular, 不能用phonics拼讀的字.

另外我想指出, 如家長能跟書自己教 (即是家長本身要有點英文底子, 因為呢套書係冇錄音冇DVD配合的), The Reading Lesson: Teach Your Child to Read in 20 Easy Lessons 只要廿幾蚊美金, 已教埋blending, 一套peter and Jane都係幾百蚊, 甚至能係圖書館借, 個人覺得比買d一套二套教材化算, 效果一樣, 唔會比d過千蚊教材差. 之前有朋友比左jolly phonics我, 有埋功課, 錄音, 結果我都冇用.  分太多本書, 我覺得好麻煩.  以下是該書的連結, 大家不妨睇下外國家長及老師意見.

至於peter and jane, 是一位本身小時侯讀國際學校, 唔識睇但識講中文的朋友介紹的, 佢以前係某有名女校中學部教英國文學, 佢都係用peter and jane教自己仔女讀書.  後來我先知, 不少三十幾四十歲, 係外國生活或出世的媽媽朋友中, 原來好多人細個時都係讀peter and jane. 呢套書已有成50年歷史, 以教keywords為主, 到而家都仲有好多人用, 不無原因.

hi, sbux, 想問下用letterland 學blending好嗎??

Letterland嘅blending分拆系統無synthetic咁有條理，亦無咁好記，所以如果撗掂學得blending.都近k2，轉學synthetic 好過，兩者都係英系phonics，接軌無問題

我個女都係咁，佢好鐘意中文，英文閱讀就.....雖然聽無問題，但要自己讀英文就話好難，學校已經有學phonics...不過都唔係好讀到，唔知點好...

Depending on the age of you daughter, if she is in K1/K2 and has  just learned phonics, books like BOB books are a good choice.  It's simple enough for a beginner and gives the child the satisfaction of finishing reading a book on her own.

bob books are short readers catered specifically to groups of phonics.  It's quite popular in English speaking countries as a supplemental reader along with phonics learning.  You can search on Amazon to check it out.  I believe they are available at local bookstores and on taobao.

No disrespect intended, but a lot of the popular, branded programs used by HK tutorial centres are just marketing.  Letterland has been on the decline for many years in the UK.  My company used to make learning toys for a British company in the UK using the Letterland license, but they quit using the license more than 10 years ago because sales were on the decline as well.  In fact, I had a set of the Letterland material myself from my job, but I never used it to teach my kids.  Colorful, expensive, and audio doesn't necessarily make it better than something simple, IMHO. Below is an extract from a British mom's discussion forum about Letterland:

"It covers 26 letters (but no digraphs like sh, ch, or th) and 31 sounds.

That is not how English works. There are 44 phonemes, each of which can be written a number of ways. Letterland simply doesn't cover this."

My friend and I had once toyed with the idea of opening an English learning center for preschoolers and one of the criteria is getting a "branded" program because many HK parents just buy into a program more than how well it really works.  For me, I used a combination of different approaches, but never a fixed set of books.  Improvisation is very important in all types of teaching.
