There are 2 differences between YMCA members and non-members:-

(1) Enrollment is first come first served but priority will be given to member's appllications received on that day. For example, if there are 10 places and they receive 6 applications on the first day, 4 from members and 2 from non-members, all 6 will be enrolled. Then on the second day if they receive 6 applications again, 4 from members and 2 from non-members, the remaining 4 places will go to the 4 members.

(2) The fee is a few hundred dollars cheaper for members.

I guess (1) is more important because YMCA's Toddler's World playgroup is quite popular, so if you want to apply as a non-member you better send in your application early.

Oh... I didn't know members will have priority. I just submitted the application as a non-member last week, when bb was 11 months old. Not sure if there is any chance to get in.

It is written in the Enrollment Guidelines that they give priority to members.

You can always call their Member Services desk on 23687070 to find out whether your application has been accepted.

我女女14M,想報下年9月1.5-2Y的課程,
職員叫我入會及5月留意網頁,
其實唔入會,係咪入讀寶寶世界的機會很低??

係入會費貴D,
另想問會費係咪只係一年?

If I were you, I would join their membership because of the following reasons:-

(1) Being a member you enjoy priority over non-members in enrollment. When I enrolled my child in Toddler's World a few years ago, the staff told me this playgroup is quite popular and always get filled up very quickly.

(2) Their fees are cheaper than many commercially run playgroups, so you get your $3000 membership money back in the form of savings on fees.

(3) They have many other classes for children and adults which may interest you, as a member you have enrollment priority for those too.

Yes you need to renew your membership annually but it is only $1200 for the entire family, you don't need to pay the $1800 first-time processing fee again.

Having said that, you should also set your expectations correctly, Toddler's World is just a playgroup, not exactly an academic class, so there won't be assessments or certificates other than verbal feedback from the teachers. Most if not all of their teachers are of South or South East Asian ethnic origin but they do speak good English, likewise the children are mostly Asians or Orientals, this should not be a concern unless you are expecting to see white faces.

Forgot to mention one thing, if you are planning to send your child to TST YMCA's kindergarten, being in Toddler's World will give your child priority.

我問緊尖沙咀個間，而家仲考慮入唔入會，
想問除左ymca，九龍區仲有邊D pg is for 1.5y ，係好ga？

Just realized that I misunderstood. I actually applied for the sparkler & climber pre-kindergarten course, not the PG. Didn't know there was PG in Toddlers World. =p  Already attending other PG. Hope can still get in the sparkler/climber course.

Sparklers & Climbers is run directly by the TST YMCA kindergarten and the classes are a bit more serious, Toddler's World on the other hand is not run by the kindergarten and is a more casual playgroup. Both will have priority when applying for K1 at the kindergarten.

因為我女女而家得14M,到9月都未足2Y,所以應該報唔到下一年的Sparklers & Climbers ,
而其他N班都未讀得住,所以諗住俾佢讀住寶寶世界先,
咁Sparklers & Climbers可以幾時報GA?
入會後有冇優先?

Sparklers & Climbers is for children aged 2 to 3, and you can apply for it at any time, it is first come first served. You apply directly to the TST YMCA kindergarten which is located on the 2nd floor, and apparently they don't have any priority policy, not officially anyway.

Toddler's World is for children aged 1.5 to 3 and it is not run by the kindergarten but by the YMCA itself, and you apply for it at the Member Services desk on the ground floor on the dates stated in the "Y's Opinion" booklet, just like applying for any other classes run by the YMCA, and YMCA members are given priority.
