From SIS Website:

"SIS’s pioneer secondary cohort performs well at IB exams

Singapore International School (Hong Kong) congratulates the Class of 2013, our pioneer secondary cohort, on their impressive performance at the IB examinations in the May 2013 session.    Of the 23 students registered for the IB diploma, 100% successfully obtained the diploma, and 8 obtained Diploma scores of 40 points and above.  The average score of these students was 37, and the highest score was 44.  5 students received the bilingual Diploma, which is awarded when students study two language and literature courses at native or near native level.

The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education that has gained recognition and respect from universities worldwide.  IB diploma students need to offer six subjects, which must include two languages, one social science, one experimental science and mathematics; the final subject can be in the arts or an additional social science or experimental science subject.  They also need to write an Extended essay, complete a Theory of Knowledge course, and complete Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) activities, which aim to enhance students’ personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning and enable journeys of self-discovery.  The maximum score an IB diploma student can achieve is 45.

Even prior to this fine showing at the IB examinations, the Class of 2013 has performed impressively in both academic and non-academic areas.   The cohort clinched three “Top in the World” and “Best across Eight IGCSEs in Hong Kong” (First and Second places) awards in the IGCSE examinations offered by Cambridge International Examinations.  As part of their CAS activities, they galvanized other year groups to organize a Cycling for the Canines event, and volunteered as classroom assistants in Tsui Tsing Tong School (TTTS), which enrolls students with mild and moderate intellectual difficulties.  Several of them came back after their IB examinations to share with the Secondary 4 cohort on their CAS experiences, while others tutored their juniors in Mathematics before the latter sat for the school’s End of Year examination.

The cohort’s excellent results are a testament to the hard work put in by our students and teachers as well as the strong support provided by our parents.  Kudos goes to the parents of the pioneer secondary cohort, who showed much commitment to their children’s education in our school.

7 students of this cohort will be returning to Singapore for their National Service while the rest will continue their studies at higher education institutions worldwide.  The cohort has received conditional offers from renowned universities such as Hong Kong University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University College London, Imperial College London, University of Warwick, University of Edinburgh, University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

We wish the Class of 2013 all the best as they continue to be trailblazers in what we hope will be successful days ahead."
