根據阿女收集返來再描述 :

1. 入讀中大的 linguistics ~ 是 "專" 而 "深"...(呢科始終是佢最鍾意的)

中大一開波就讀 linguistics,
港大學院制, 頭一年可以睇定d,第二年先揀科入,

兩睇,有好有唔好, linguistics位唔多, 中大可以直入, 港大怕要第二年再同人地爭多次.

唔知港大有無學院入學成績最好頭10%可以優先揀定科?

HKU has no limit on the Major/Minor.  You just declare it in your year 2. Cross faculty major/minor is also possible.

阿女都係咁理解。
吾會入吾到linguistics 的。

但最多只可兩個major 。
只要其中一個major 在文學院的，就可拎文學士。

多謝您澄清, 原來HKU係咁.  Marco-ma 囡囡係叻女, 知道晒情況.

雖然都係學院制收生, 原來間間唔同. 去BU聽過 talk, 佢地第一年無分科, 但入學成績好個幾%同學, 可以揀定科先.   第二年選科, 又係睇成績揀先, 揀熱門TRANSLATION位有限競爭都好大.

有小小唔明, 揀科係唔係有幾多人讀就開幾多個位?

我早一兩年聽過的city u & UST
以school 收生的year 2 都要爭的，
但阿女問咗HKU 文學院，全部不設上限人數的。

另外最吸引的，是可以major or minor其他學院的課程，major 最多兩個，minor 可以無限。

"major or minor其他學院的課程" 某些學系对gpa 有要求

But you can't major in Law, Accounting, Medicine or Dental unless you are enrolled in that degree or double degree.  Not only the Arts Faculty, HKU Science and Social Science Faculty also adopt the same arrangement.

You need to read the Faculty handbook.  I have posted the links of a few faculty handbooks in another post. Psychology is a very popular major in social science.  You need to read http://www.psychology.hku.hk/index.php?id=1832 for Psychology Dept info on undergraduate requirements.

我覺得若想讀職業導向強的major 要想得比較清楚，好澈底了解行業。我見太多人話要讀心理學，唔知同mentalist或者同電視訪問有無關。

讀心理學會有咩職業導向呀？
（吾會以為可以做心理醫生麻！)

阿女只係覺得呢科幾得意想去試下，仲有哲學，宗教倫理....
佢好多科都想試，所以HKU 好似啱佢貪心的性格多d。

暫時來講，佢仍然最想讀linguistics 或同語文有關的科，
都是無咩職業導向的，不過呢兩個月見阿女大個咗又識諗咗。
我都無再擔心佢將來做咩了

讀心理學 major 可以將來再進修master 讀臨牀心理學或教育心理學。

多心想試又肯比時間心機可以多幾個minor
不過講多無謂，行動最實際，成績好想揀乜都得

Just some sharing .....

I had studied Translation years before. Basically Translation and interpretation is more practical, modules includes, structure of English and Chinese, translation theory, translation criticism, law document, business document, literature translation.  There were lots of homework about translation!  (Those were the days I have to search the meaning of words by dictionaries.)  For job considerations, some of my ex-classmates worked as translator, court intrerpretator, journalist, or work in publishing / media / PR fields.

I also studied linguistics.  Linguistics covers  phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntactic theory, lexical semantics, grammar, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics and  psychololinguistics ... I worked in business sectors before. Some of my  ex-classmates worked as teacher, lecturers, Education Bureau, government, and many other business sectors.

If you are interested to know more, you could check out the above course modules contents via the net.   When I was young, I didn't think of my job path before studying, but I was interested in languages and my results were qualified to enroll those programmes.
