If you really care about the level of Chinese at a school, I think you will have to consider more than just the instruction time. If I were you, I would also ask about the curriculum (text book/materials used, level vs LS), support of Chinese book reading, the use of Chinese outside of Chinese classes, playground language, …. Curriculum is most important but you also have to consider whether the kids "enjoy" using the language. Chinese is much tougher to learn and if the kids see it as a "second class" language, then it will always be an afterthought. |
