What do everyone think about the increase in class size?

I'm not ISF parents.  But my experience is :如果人手协调得当, 这点绝不是关键问题.  ESF 30 students per class , 基本的问题不大, 除非个别孩子需要特别关顾,不然其教与学的影响不大.

有些妈妈在家看管三四个孩子兼没有佣人, 家庭安排头头是道, 有些妈妈照顾一个, 又加上佣人帮忙, 咪一样叫苦连天,到今天我都唔明白.....

I agree with you, only thing to consider is whether the school has been promoting small class as their competitive edge. If they did, and now they say it is ok to become a large class, the school has a lot to explain.

学校愈来愈多客, 暂时还是容易入, 原来香港甚多有钱人呢,

你唔读还有大把人排紧队要招呼, 家长重点要考虑是人多左有否对你的孩子有坏影响, 如果无, 我就当无事发生, 随遇而安吧!  多收几个又醒又劲又有家教的, 我是高兴也来不及, 得福也! 凡事睇定D, 无好甘快滕鸡啊!

小女的year 1 班中得14人, 上到year 6 就28 人, 多些好朋友, 好家长, 老师就辛苦D, 其他没有实际改变.

15~18人一班，可以接受。

I think acceptable in higher grades as well since the best way to draw good students is through lateral admissions.  The increase in class size at the FY level is concerning though.  Not sure if they can manage an increase from 15 to 18 especially given the need to teach hanyu pinyin and phonics at the same time.

Why does the school need to increase the class size, given there are already 8-10 classes each grade? Are they going to have 200 students per grade at lower grades? What a big number

I was disappointed by the increase in class size.  Their reason of excess demand is not acceptable.  How come the school has not asked for parents' opinions before deciding the increase?

Need to ask around but I was not aware of any consultation with parents

Parents are debenture holders and should have a say in important school matters.

I guess small class benefits younger kids than older ones. So it is only logical to increase the class sizes as the grades go up but not vice versa. And determination of class size should be based on what is most beneficial to the kids instead of reasons due to overwhelming demand especially when the school is charging top fees

重點是：
1。當初學校有沒有promise每班最多有多少人數
2。法律上是否容許多收人數（每個班房應有卦文件說最多可容納多少學生）

如果學校依例辦事，我又覺得很難反對；客觀現實，如果人多了而安排好，問題不大，最重要是學校多唔多students with special needs。

I don't think any school would "promise" or put into contract any such things.  I don't know the population of special needs students and have not come across that number being disclosed.

No, no school is able to promise or put it in a contact. However, if the school has been heavily promoting small class and its benefits as the school's competitive advantage, then they have to explain the change in the philosophy and how big a class is considered to big. It is about staying true to their ideals as a school.

如果ISF的PTA影响力大. 应该及早要求学校在增加班数, 每班人数上, 要PTA 或家长投票才可通过的.  

市场需求是外面的大众事, 学生和家长是学校的真正持分人, 没可能不受影响的, 怎可以哓过家长的容许而干此转变啊!

ISF 的advantages 是有大大幅地皮来加建班房, 本来是篮球场, 就在上面起多栋大楼, 然市场上甚缺合格的国产中文老师, 学千金易得, 一将难求, 现在已经常向LC & DSS 的普通话老师招手, 水平是良繡不齊, 刚好小一二学生遇上位有点水份的老师, 要学好的汉语拼音的理想, 便容易泡汤了.

还有ISF的名堂还未打好, Billigual 的理想还未落实, 有点收生上的阔容, 必然影响公开试的总体成绩, 既然交不出稳定性的实力, 未来初中, middle school 的好学生必然加入逃亡潮. 那时卖大包都没人要吧! 结果是恶性循环呢!

向来认为ISF是匹黑马,成绩是指日可待, 可惜如此急促扩张, 是艺未见而人胆大之作.  ISF的家长们倒要警醒啊, 作多手准备.......


p.s. 之前提过小女的class size 由14 to 28,(class max .30)  亦念过小班教学的学校, 基本是分别不大, 然师资水平和各方面配合的补足的其没影响的关键,  因此class size 没影响未必能成立.

舉例，英基一向說是每班 <30 人，耀中就是每班 <20 人。如果我記錯，請指正，但一定有一個上限。一，是學校對學生和家長的承諾；二，是消防條例問題。總之就一定有個數目，不可能說多人申請就加。
