The results of the 2013 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) were released on 15 July, 2013.

This year, the overall percentage of attaining level 2 or above was 96.62.  15.5% of our students attained level 4 or above in English Language, while 40.3% reached level 4 or above in Chinese Language. Liberal Studies (LS) subject reached 49.7% of our students achieved level 4 or above. We have 8 students being awarded level 5**.

The percentages of students achieving level 4 or above in Chinese Language, Mathematics (Compulsory Part, Calculus and Statistics, Algebra and Calculus), Economics, Geography, Information and Communication Technology, Liberal Studies, Visual Arts were above territory averages.

The percentages of students achieving level 5 or above in Chinese Language, Geography, Mathematics (Compulsory Part, Algebra and Calculus), Information and Communication Technology and Visual Arts were above territory averages.

SPCC今年有28個尖子考IB, 第一年平均成績已是全港最佳, 超越幾間傳統名牌國際學校包括李寶春. 但文憑試成績仍然保持到水準, 實屬難得. 但SPCC轉考IB的學生人數會不斷增加, 對將來文憑試成績肯定會造成壓力. DGS沒有搞IB, 集中考文憑試, 兩者不是apple to apple, 難比較.

IB Results

1.        The average score of our first cohort of IB students is 40.67 (out of a full score of 45), which is among the highest for schools in the world.

2.        Nearly 80% of them got a score of 40 or above, compared to the world’s 7%.

3.        Five (19%) of our 27 students got a score of 44, they are Chan Chak Ling Jenny, Lam Yu Ting Francis, Mak Hoi Kay Esther, Ngan Tze Ning and Wong Tin Wan.

4.        Our mean subject grade is 6.45 (out of the highest 7), compared to the world’s mean grade of 4.67.

5.        All 100% of them achieved the Bilingual Diploma.

聖 保 羅 男 女 中 學 首 屆 IB 課 程 上 周 放 榜 ， 共 誕 生 五 位 四 十 四 分 的 優 異 生 。

　　第二屆中學文憑試前日放榜，其中直資名校聖保羅男女中學就誕生了該校首名七科5**狀元，成績理想，加上上周公布首屆學生應考IB文憑試，同樣獲得佳績，可謂雙喜臨門。就IB文憑試的成績，Elsie上周特別約了該校校長陳黃麗娟博士（Dr.Chan），和IB課程統籌盧雪兒，了解該校如何栽培IB學生。

　　聖保羅男女中學首屆有二十七名學生考IB，其中五人考獲四十四分（四十五分滿分），近八成學生考獲四十分或以上，全部考生穩入首志願大學。Dr.Chan同Elsie講，她對首屆IB畢業生表現非常滿意，最開心是有些本來表現較弱的學生，選讀IB課程後，卻有很好的增值，且能入讀心儀的首志願大學，當中包括英國的劍橋、牛津、倫敦帝國學院、美國的康奈爾大學、加州大學（柏克萊）及（洛杉磯）分校以及本地主要大學等。「這開心過有或者無狀元，亦證明有些學生讀本地課程，未必考得好，但卻適合讀IB課程。」

　　聽Dr.Chan說，該校有意讀IB課程的中三學生，都必須約見校內的IB課程統籌兩次，目的是看該學生是否適合讀IB課程，而不是篩選能力高的學生才可入讀。「最主要是看他們的傾向、學習習慣、語文和表達能力、是否明白甚麼是IB等。這是一個Counseling（輔導）的模式，不是成績好的學生才可以讀，就像本地課程一樣，各種能力的學生都有。」

　　為了提早讓學生了解自己的學習興趣及志向，從而選出最適合自己的學習模式，聖保羅男女中學早於中二的家長簡介會，已向學生及家長簡介何謂IB課程。在中三的IB簡介會，IB課程統籌會為學生提供升學意見，釐清有關IB課程的謬誤，同時為有意修讀IB的學生，分析其學習志向，希望他們能選擇適合自己的課程。

　　當確保適合的學生才可入讀IB課程，聖保羅男女中學在中四就設校本課程，內容為IB的兩年制預科文憑而設。盧老師說，首屆全部IB畢業生都考獲雙語文憑，即所有學生都要修讀兩科Language Ａ，把中文和英文都作母語來學習，所以中四的校本課程中，亦會加強學生的語文能力，為日後要讀文學做準備。「有很多同學，從來無讀過中國和英國文學，所以用這年去鞏固他們欣賞文章的技巧。」另外，又會教學生寫文章和做研究的方法，幫助他們往後撰寫的四千字論文（Extended Essay）。

　　Dr.Chan補充，IB課程的學習方法，跟慣於就讀傳統本地課程的學生來說，是很新的嘗試，所以校本課程的準備就很重要，除了要打好學生的文學底子外，其他學科也有不同的準備，例如IB的科學，就注重由學生自己設計實驗，多於跟隨某個實驗的程序去做，須要學生自己去探究，或者自己設計題目等，故中四的校本課程中，要讓學生熟習這種學習模式。

　　對於聖保羅男女中學首屆學生考IB文憑就有好成績，Dr.Chan說還有很多原因，其中老師的培訓自然不可缺少。她說該校教IB的約三十位老師，都是該校的原有老師，並再培訓，而不是從外邊聘請。另外，圖書館和實驗室的資源配合都很重要。

　　問到該校未來的IB學額會否增加，Dr.Chan說要看學生的興趣和能力。「學校最初辦IB課程時就開兩組，每組不多於二十人，這也是IB的規定。這兩年報讀IB的學生，平均約三十人。直資學校如開辦IB課程，學額不可多於該年級的百分之五十，而來年全級中六約有一百九十人，所以仍有很多空間，未來就要看有多少學生有興趣，如果真的有很多人有興趣和合適的話，就可以開三組，彈性很大的。」

　　Elsie知道，想入讀聖保羅男女中學的IB課程，除了該校學生原校升讀外，也接受外校生報名，校方會於每年約一、二月招外校生；但學額就視乎每年情況而定，平均不多於兩成為外校轉讀生。聽Dr.Chan講，讀IB的學生也可申請學費資助，好像首屆畢業生中，也有學生獲全免學費，即每年為七萬八千元。境外學習也是免費，學生不會因經濟問題，失去讀IB課程的機會。
