Thaks Shadeslayer!

I thought parents said RC's Chinese is more strong it's because their chinese p ...
Students mix cause the schools to adjust their Chinese program to cater for the needs of students.  Peer group also has great impact on every student.  RC uses traditional Chinese program while DC uses simplied Chinese.  DC was in fact ESF Bauhinia School before which was used to accomodate temporarily students from Discovery Bay for a few years.  So this school has always been taking in mainly western kids.  Their Chinese program can't be same level as RC as most students are not Chinese.
Even other ESF schools all have different levels of Chinese programs cater for their student mix.

If you don't like DC, then stay in St. Cat to wait for the right school you want.

I disagree with the statement that Chinese level at Yr 5 in RC is K3 in local school.

My boy is yr 3 in RC, I believe they use the same Longman textbook as local school. They are encourage to read a short Chinese story on website everyday. This website is quite popular among local school. My son also needs to write 週記 sometimes monthly, sometimes biweekly.

We had a long chat with RC's Chinese Dept Head 2 yrs ago. He thinks their Chinese level may be 1 yr behind local school when they finish primary school, and may be 2 yrs behind when they finish secondary. So for me, I am fine if my son doesn't know 文言文. I also have seen senior students do book review reports on 三國, 西游記

To gauge the Chinese standards of a particular international school, one can look at their % of graduates with bilingual diploma. That said, the figure could be distorted as some students with different Chinese language background and linguistic skills join those schools in the middle of their school life. Hope it helps

People are discussing DC, not RC.  I did not even mention any standard of Chinese of DC or RC, only know that there will be difference in different schools due to student mix.
No one said that RC's Chinese is kinder's level.  I don't think DC's Chinese level is so low too.

pls refer to the message Annie123 posted a few hours ago. She mentioned that the cirrumlum for DC and RC are the same. If other people are saying that DC has a low Chinese standard, which I do NOT know, but I don't want people to have a wrong impression about RC.

come on, there is a reply to your posting asking if you mean that RC has the Chinese level as DC. And if other people suggested that DC Yr 5 = local K3, it is not hard for certain people to make the false coonection. I just want to clarify that. We are here on this forum to provide correct info to let other folks to make proper decision. Lets be less sensitive, as the person writting the posting can have different emotion, intention and interpretation as the one reading it.

其實有多少人真的在DC讀緊呢?如果樓主不信,最好自己放學時間去學校門口問下一些本地家長。

My kid is studying in DC.  The Chinese is not difficult and everyweek there is only one homework.  My kid is in the top level of chinese in their school.  However, my kid improved a lot in English after he got into DC, because most of the students are foreigners.  I think if you get in international schools, your main target is not about his Chinese.  You could learn Chinese outside school, as what my kid does.  But in an environment like DC, their oral English improves tremendously.

xxxxx

As a PIS, DC has to have 70%+ HK residents.  May be some of these foreigners are also HK residents?

點評

mesmerising  And those biracial kids whose moms(usually) are HK residents are included.  發表於 13-4-7 10:40

Confirmed does not mean you have to go.  You still have time from now to August to think it through.
