Unlike previous years when play visits were spread over many days over many weeks, this year they will close the school for one day on 25th Jan and conduct all play visits on that one single day, so offers should be made after that date. However this does not mean they will not give offers prior to that date to special cases, but these should be few.

Wow.. your infomation is very useful, I haven't check with the school admin before.
Heard from WKS campus mummy, she is the 2nd lot of "play visit" candidate.

So what will be these special cases?

I was only talking about the Tsing Yi school, the Wu Kai Sha school could well have a different arrangement for their play visits. Many believe the Wu Kai Sha school is the easiest to get into and the Hillside school is the most difficult, but that is only hear-say.

The special cases would be children of teaching staff etc, every school has these cases but their numbers should be small enough to not affect the overall fairness of the admission process.

Yes, I also heard that Hillside is more difficult to get in.  What about Tsing Yi? I am eager to get a place for my daughter, coz hk local education system is really scared me!

FattyDaddy  Just try your best at the play visit this Friday, and ESF kindergartens are not the only international kindergartens around so you always have other options besides.  發表於 13-1-22 23:06

my friend late application two years ago ty campus but later the admission office suggested to transfer the application to wks campus as the waiting list in ty was too long .
as more 雙非,more local parents choose IS, it is expected the waiting list will be even longer.

For ESF Hillside, I know that those applicants with siblings currently studying in Hillside got interviewed earlier than the main body of applicants.  Apparently, Hillside had around 60-70 siblings which they interviewed in December and then the rest of the applicants were all interviewed on Jan 18.

I also heard (unsubstantiated) that some of those interviewed in Dec were already informed of the results - but this is just unconfirmed rumour. (ie. I don't know of anyone who actually received an offer after interviewing in Dec).

My son is also having his play visit this coming Friday, at 4pm. Is it true that they only look at the interaction between mother and child? We attended another IS interview today; on the email they asked us to play with our children normally at their play structure, but when we're there they told all parents to sit on the side and let the teacher do all the leading. this was very confusing as I already told my son that I'll play with him a bit, which didn't happen. I just hope the ESF play visit will not be as chaotic....

Don't worry, unless they have changed completely this year, the play visit is going to be you playing with your child for 20 minutes followed by a 10 minute group time when parents and children will gather in front of a teacher and sing nursery rhymes together. During the 20 minute play a teacher would come round and chat-chat for a short while, no probing questions, just normal social conversation. If your child speaks good English and is talkative, that would be wonderful, if not, then it will be up to you the parent doing all the talking, and as long as your child understands your English and interacts with you, it will be fine. Good luck on Friday {:1_1:}

Oh another thing, don't stick to the same toy set for the entire 20 minutes, not only will you run out of things to say but your child will get bored also. Try to go round the different toys and stuff they have in the area, do a puzzle, stack some building blocks, string some beads, read a book etc etc etc, stay active.

Not sure if its different for each campus, but for the Hillside interview this year, it was a bit more structured than that (I was there assisting). After the kids were brought to the classrooms in small groups, they were given some free play time to settle down, and then there was a circle time with some singing followed by story time (teacher read a story to the group). The whole session took around 20-25 minutes, and the parent(s) were with their child the whole time.

It's similar to some "happy learning" kindergarten interview pattern… that's good for patents and kids!

Thank you for your advice FattyDaddy! I am sure my son will have no problem staying active. Actually he's a bit too active during some other interviews we had. He's not shy at all but may have difficulty sitting still to complete a task or listen to an entire story without "running his laps". Our first language is English and he has been speaking in complete sentences since 23 months old. I just hope the teachers won't penalize over active kids?....

點評

FattyDaddy  No I don't think they would penalize anyone, they just want an accurate assessment of the child's ability to understand English, good luck tomorrow {:1_1:}  發表於 13-1-24 20:33
