Good one, I got to talk to her about Nazi, WW2, and extend to the concept of genocide.

The quartet: Giver, Gathering Blue, Messager and Son.  But these seem to feature different protagonists from the original Giver and no sign of Jonas or Gabe.

I imagine Jonas was hallucinating before dying in Giver.

那就讓你女兒看看。看她對結局如何看法。
會不會是孩子普遍樂觀,成人悲觀呢?

不過,我的才11歲,你的應比他年紀大些,可能已可看出故事悲傷無奈的那一面。

I have not seen the Odyssey, she read it at school. But she said it was about Greek gods.

Scat by Carl Hiaasen.

She took my new Dan Brown book and finished it yesterday. She said she was scared of the silenced gun used by the assassin. Duh, still a small child.

Do report back on the other books you mentioned.  Thanks.

Son has finished the SSYRA books I have reserved from the library.  Two recommendations for young men:  Go Big Or Go Home , by will hobbs(about aliens and infection).  Airball, my life in briefs , by L.D. Harkrader( about sportsmanship and basketball).

There is another one suitable for both boys and girls on dragons and adventure; Dragon Slippers, by Jessica Day George.

These are the three among all i have borrowed which he liked most.

Thanks mesmerising.  The Dragon Slippers sounds interesting.  I saw a new series (looks like a new series) called Conspiracy 365.  Did not get a chance to flip though them.

Every year, the 'Battle of the Book' will select 20 books for secondary for competition.  The books selected are usually very gook.  You may visit their website.  The book list for 2013-14 has just released.

Scat 在阿女學校很受歡迎。

有日行過 page one ,買左本有趣的書:

There is a question, "why do children have to listen to adults?" Or something like that. And other good questions answered.

From Amazon:

In the spirit of Schott’s Miscellany, The Magic of Reality, and The Dangerous Book for Boys comes Big Questions from Little People—a smart, illuminating, essential, and utterly delightful handbook for perplexed parents and their curious children. Author Gemma Elwin Harris has lovingly compiled weighty questions from precocious grade school children—queries that have long dumbfounded even intelligent adults—and she’s gathered together a notable crew of scientists, specialists, philosophers, and writers to answer them. Authors Mary Roach and Phillip Pullman, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, chef Gordon Ramsay, adventurist Bear Gryllis, and linguist Noam Chomsky are among the top experts responding to the Big Questions from Little People, (“Do animals have feelings?”, “Why can’t I tickle myself?”, “Who is God?”) with well-known comedians, columnists, and raconteurs offering hilarious alternative answers. Miles above your average general knowledge and trivia collections, this charming compendium is a book fans of the E.H. Gombrich classic, A Little History of the World, will adore.

我自己曾經沈迷Richard Dawkins.  現在完全不看他的書了。也不會鼓勵孩子從他的眼光看神。
