小朋友已學鋼琴數年
跟過兩位鋼琴老師，都係同學仔家長介紹
第1位老師因為要出國而無教
第2位老師，即現在教緊嘅老師......唉！

依家小朋友失咗興趣！

大毛p4 --> 報考5級
細毛p3 --> 報考3級

1) 因為開口埋口就話細毛唔識，無鬼用；對兩條魚毛都係，上堂45min 用咗一半時間話，依樣錯、個樣錯；咁正確係點？無講！


2) 一齊上樂理，話細毛咁細，唔會明，叫佢坐埋一邊


3) 而且佢仲係爸爸面前話我要求慢慢教wor，唔係嗎！又係佢強烈要求幫小朋友報考琴試(講咗幾次)，依家又慢慢教，咁即係點？


4) 開始時，問我哋識唔識琴，識就好啦，父母可以幫手係平時教，好似XX同學仔咁；所有練習對我講，唔係對小朋友講！原來教琴最大責任係父母！


5) 時時要求改時間；小朋友耍返學！竟然學校考試期間，學校放早，佢話可以係放學後補堂！學校於考試期間放早，係想小朋友温習！又或者晚上9p / 10p 補堂，咁小朋友咪要遲瞓！


6) 既然無時間補堂，就skip一個星期，唔得wor，佢話佢會少咗收入！？咁想我點？

己講過，尤其小朋友性格
我 trust 你，所以由你自行安小朋友性格決定點樣教
不過依家小朋友無咗興趣啦！


咁係我哋嘅問題亦或係邊個嘅問題

4同6不無道理。小朋友學習有家長跟的確會好d，老師一星期只見一次，不及家長每天提點。請假一定要補堂本身係冇問題的，問題在於老師經常調堂。其他如是屬實，咁你搵個夾到大毛細毛的老師吧。

我覺得﹐最大問題是老師經常改時間﹐這樣是很不負責任﹐並對孩子很不公平﹗另外﹐如果老師不能確實告知學生所謂正確和如何改善﹐在堂上即時令學生的彈奏有所不同﹐並令學生回家後有興趣和能力自己反覆重練在堂上和老師一起練好的段落/技巧﹔長此下去再學都進展不多。

說得對
就算老師叫我陪佢哋練習，我都好無奈
唔知彈得正唔正確

至於第一點
我明白如家中有事，或病了，都應該互常配合改時間
但係一來太多啦，二來要小朋友就佢
我話夾唔到，不如skip一堂，其實我都擔心阻慢小朋友進度，不過老師只想著自己少了收入！

唔關識唔識琴事架~ 係父母係子女練習時給予鼓勵，提佢彈足幾多次咁。好多家長唔識琴但都會陪子女練習，有時你都會聽到仔女彈得順/唔順。我意思指有家長跟，會做得好D。家長係屋企係配合都好重要。

當然，你老師最大的問題真係成日調時間。

sigh... good teacher is hard to find... here is a tip my friend.  There are lots of website such as hk.88(DEE BEE).com , craigslist, gumtree, even here babykingdom you can look for piano teachers.  Ask them to pm you for a free trial lesson, or half price.  Tell them your situation, expectations.  Give your kids a choice to pick from your picks.  You are paying at the end of the day so you have all the rights to test out different teachers.  

We are talking about your kids future here, you have all the rights! don't worry too much.

I totally agree with your points! in my opinion teachers have 50% responsibility where parents have 25% and peers have 25% in order for the kids really love music.

我都有陪佢哋練習
不過只係聽到順唔順

我係網上search 番首曲比佢哋聽番！
因為老師只講「又錯」，跟著用20-30分鐘講：「你咁樣唔得，要多多練習，好似阿邊個邊個......」
講咗咁耐，不如講聲正確係點！

當然我係最希望小朋友自動自覺去練習
好似做功課咁

You are right, my elder child is going to have grade 5 exam, We should not stop at here but look for the future.

To me, even if loosing income is the fact, she shouldnt say it out.  The bottom line too is that she is the one who wants to change the appt time, she should take the responsibility!  Teachers who have the passion for music, love to teach, I am sure the child (and the parents) can feel it, and naturally the child will want to learn.  Word of mouth is quite important, so I guess talk to more people about it.  Are there free lance teacher hooked up with TomLee..etc?

Thank you very much for your advice.

I was trying to compromise the dates but it was really frustrated that she required to have the lessons on the exam dates whereas children had short school days for revision at home.

We never skip lessons even during exam week. If we had trip, we would inform her as early as possible. So far, there was no problem with the first teacher.

Today, she cannot come again and requests to have 2-3 hours lesson at tomorrow night. She will come at 7:30pm!

Yes, she is a free lance teacher and therefore she requests payment in cash. Well, I don't really mine because so far I have prepare the tution fee.

Some of my students don't care about my time on the other hand. They might not be at home when I reach their home! :(

Seriously try out at least 3 new teachers, 5-10 if you don't mind the hassle.  Stop with your current one now if you have an issue with him/her.  Don't worry about the exam pieces being taught in different styles and methods.  

Since practicing is crucial for one to excel, teachers should spend a decent amount of time explaining HOW TO practicing during the week.

Most important thing to ask the teacher is how they recommend on practicing, tell them you require a practice schedule.  As a teacher myself, the following is an example of what I note down for my beginner student.


A dozen A day Book 1
song no. 7 - 4 times, 2 legato, 2 staccato
no. 8 - staccato only 2 times tempo 140
no. 9 - lift your fingers up higher
no. 10 - do NOT speed up bar 4

Bach Minuet 3
- Grand opening, Theme, RH Sing more
Bar 5-6  light, playful

Practice 1st line 5 times

Bar 7-8  5 times dotted rhythm

Bar 8   10 times, slowly tempo 100, focus on crescendo  

Bar 13-14  5 times   13-E accent 14-D accent exaggerate more.

etc.etc......

If the song is not fluent enough, the ONLY way and the quickest way is to follow the steps. Nothing will go wrong.


1. Always practice hands separately, students should play hands separately on a daily basis no matter what.  

2. Dotted rhythm - long short long short, then short long short long.

3. Chord grouping

4. Hands together at a super slow pace and build up slowly.  With a metronome

5. 2 bars by 2 bars i.e bar 1-2, 2-3, 3-4  around 5-10 times each per session

6. Air playing - meaning one hand playing while the other fake playing.  LH playing the notes making a sound, RH pretending to play, not making a sound but having the right fingers on top of the notes at the right time.


I find it very useful to give kids a set amount of work to do every week i.e amount of times.  No point telling them to play until its fluent, too open ended.  will end up day dreaming or making excuses up.
