Actually, KCIS does not offer nap time this year too.  The kids can watch TV or play toys after lunch.

I am also thinking if I should put my son in AM local and PM int'l.  
What is your view after this one whole year ?  Will she be very sleepy after school ?

Do you think the level of English of your kid is good ?  

Do you still give her some other activities after school or during weekend ?

In K3, will you still stay in K3 or go to international stream?

My understanding was that due to SWAIR FLU, education dept found that KCS does not have linense??/permit?? (whatever is required) to arrange nap time in school excepted the two full days classes of K2W & K3W.  The two full days classes are located on the ground floor next to the girl's washroom, so if you want you can take a look around lunch time.  The full day students are taken to another class room for lunch, in the mean time their beds are made, and return to classroom for nap after lunch.  Since it's a full day class, class teachers can decid on when to wake up the kids.  I like this arrangement because in a all Mandarin speaking envirnment, both my kids' mandarin are very good (at least it's not just on books but are able to use as part of their daily life).

There is always give & take......
My personal experience with half day school was that there were almost 40 studends in one class vs 26 students in full day class.  The level of Cantonese was better than Mandarin.  The teacher/student ratio is okay but the classrooms are very small for an average of 36 students in one class.  

Language is somthing you have to use daily & enviroment is much more important than what's being teach in class.

My older is in P2 where Chinese are being teach in Mandain but most of her classmates' families were not able to support their Mandarin level, thus I found that she's lossing her Mandain language skills...I mean the daily life usage...  

Whether to put your child in half day "local stream"
and half day KCIS is a good idea to give both yourself and your child a chance to experence the differences....what do you want you child to study in Primary school, the local, international school or....

To be hornest without a nap, for 4 - 6 years, it all depends on the child, my younger when he's tired, he will go to bed while my older will keep on playing...and skip nap and sleep late...

My son is studying the local stream (KCS) in the morning and international stream (KCIS) in the afternoon.  The coming academic year, he will be going to P1 and skipping K3.  The class teacher has suggested my son finish K3 before going to international section so that he can learn more Chinese, being a Chinese.  Any one also have this dilemma?

如果要留係 local section 讀 K3, 你既小朋友就唔可以同時讀 international section P1 (=year 1)，因為 international section P1 係全日制。

完成 K3 後，你是否想小朋友考 international section P1?  KCIS 係 British National Curriculum (BNC)，根據小朋友既年齡入學 (e.g. 2004年出生現時該讀P1, 2003年出生現時讀P2)，學校雖然會有少少彈性 ，但最後亦要 head teacher  approval，所以唔一定係你想考 P1就可以考 P1，學校有機會因小朋友既實際年齡，要佢 interview P2，要有心理預備。

另外，如果讀完 local section K3 後要讀 international section P2，會skip 咗 international section P1，又是否對小朋友好呢？

建議想清楚去向 (international path or local path)，才做決定。

PS : 本人覺得 KCIS 小學既中文程度，與 local 英小差不多。KCIS P2 (=local 小一) 已用 local 小一中文書(朗文)，中文功課與 local school 差不多；P3 用 local 小二中文書，每星期更有中文默書。

Thanks for your prompt response.  My son was previously studying K1 and K2 (morning class) with KCS.  The school office said if my son wanted to go to KCIS, he had to be in the reception class in order to get thru directly otherwise an interview.  Therefore my son started to take both sections in Jan 2010.  Gladly, he enjoys both sections very much without too hard for him having to study full time.

About skipping K3 to P1, that is a big decision as he likes his class teachers and classmates very much, and I can also see that he can speak very good mandarin and write properly.  I am afraid he will be losing this talent with mandarin and writing skill after going to P1 onforward.  His other classmates also studying both sections have all joined K3 and giving up KCIS.  Their mothers said KCS local primary 1 + is also very good and famous.  The students are also good at both languages with traditional education, just that they will look for somewhere else for secondary.  That's why I am doubting if KCS or KCIS better suits my son apart from language skill...  

I read that your son will be promoting to P3?  Appreciate your advice.

請問kcis primary的中文是否繼續用國語教學呢? 除了中文科還有沒有其他"中文科目"呢? 例如中國歷史... 另外,想問學校有沒有多一個語言科目給學生選讀呢? 因為知道有d國際學校是有的。

另外,想問學校有沒有多一個語言科目給學生選讀呢? 因為知道有d國際學校是有的 - year 2 無其他語言科目選讀，upper primary & secondary 的情況未清楚。

Probably they have a long application list so they change the policy.  Please check with the school.  (My daughter did not require to attend interview last year).
