Dear All,

how's the school life of ur kids? everything fine? any comments? upto now, i satisfied on everything from the school as well as teachers and EAs, they're nice and casual, even don't need our kids to call them teachers. Charlotte loves going to school and even doesn't want to go home everyday! seems i made a correct choice for her. hope all of us can smoothly move onto primary.

No, my son currently study at Starter School not SWCK. He has an offer from Wu Kai Sha, however we declined the offer as we have moved over to HK island.

I would like to apply K1 for my son for Sept 2010. May I know some more about the admission criteria? Are your families speaking English as your first language? Did your children study in any international kinder before?  I wish to know if a categaory 2 child like mine have any chance in admission to the school.

my daughter is a cat. 2 too, although she speaks english all the time in school or at home, but since my husband and i are both purely chinese and born in HK, i think ESF will always consider our daughter as cat. 2 as they don't believe that my daughter cannot talk in cantonese (but in fact, she really can't, she can only answer like "係呀, 冇, 唔知道" something like that, and can understand only simple instructions in cantonese). this is quite unfair to us, but as long as u get in ESF kinder, i think the chance of getting into ESF primary will be much more higher. just apply, i'm not quite sure how it goes for admission in ESF kinder, but as long as u applied, if not getting a place in the 1st or 2nd round, u might still get a place just before school. like me, i'm lucky enough to get a place 2 days before school, 'cos i applied very late (jun 2009). but i'm happy with the school, and my daughter loves the school. one thing that u have to notice is - they do "learn thro play", so u must believe that children can always learn while they are playing. otherwise, u will be completely confused when u see them going to school playing all day but doing nothing. so consider if it suits your child or not before starting the school. good luck!!

Yes, quite a lot Cat. 2 local Hong Kong Chinese children studying in ESF kindergarten (I am). So do apply on time.
In my opinion, getting a place in ESF kindergarten is not too difficult in 2010.
Of course, make sure you are aware of merit/demerit of studying in IS (instead of local school.)

moreover, if u are applying ESF hillside, as now in Sheung Wan, all the teachers & the students speak only English in school, so i think it is important that  ur kid can communicate totally in English before school starts.

My kid is now "studying" in international nursery. The environment is 100% english in school. However at home as he is take care by his grandma, most of the time he speaks Cantonese. anyway, he can understand both.

Is there any interview required during the application process? I have downloaded the form and read the flowchart.  Seems they only input the data into the system and then allocating the spaces?

I am quite worry about 2010 intake. Remember 2007 was 金豬年, a small scale of baby boom....

hi, everyone! as my daughter is a "walker" and i bring her to school or from school everyday, just would like to update other parents in ESF SW about setting changes for these 2 weeks.

for the kitchen area
1st week - kitchen & craft area
2nd week - a basin set up for students
to take bath for dolls, 3 dolls with cute ESF  uniforms were placed there to wait for a bath.
3rd week - pretend doctor costumes & equipments were placed there for them to play.

sandpit
1st week - normal sandpit
2nd week - teddy bear picnic in the sandpit was set
3rd week - sorry i don't remember

painting area
1st week - using paintbrushes
2nd week - using fingers to paint
3rd week - still don't know but my daughter came home with black paint on uniform, she told me she used cotton tips to paint...

nature corner
1st week - pebbles
2nd week - insects with magnifying glasses placed aside
3rd week - shells

water tray
1st week - with reptiles inside
2nd week - with cups & plates & spoons
3rd week - sorry, will tell u later

these are the roughly idea of different setting in school in these few weeks, if i remember some more, will inform everyone later on.

me too! i've printed out all the songs, it's really quite a lot. My daughter loves the school. also the teachers are really nice, today in her dairy, her class teacher wrote me a note telling me that she is happy playing everything in school and started establishing some friendships. besides, she stuck some photos of her about what she had done in her diary, i'm so impressed.

My girl also enjoy the school life.  She cried at first few days only, then she not cry anymore.  She likes her teacher.:) but everyday I asked her:did teachers tell you story??? sing some new songs???, all of her answers are "NO"...... don't know why

don't worry, sometimes littlle girls cannot trust, haha! my daughter sang me some new songs every few days and told me the story that Audrey read to her before. i think your girl focus more on the free play time in stead or may be consider the circle time as part of the free play!
